How painful are epilators?

I find it almost painless below the knee but when I go higher on the leg it's too much for me. I cannot do anything else with it cause it hurts too much.

I prefer waxing. Even if it's painful it's just faster. I don't need to inflict pain on myself feeling each hair being ripped from my skin.

It hurts more than waxing. It's fcking torture.

I find epilating to hurt more on very fine baby hairs, and the longer a hair is it hurts more too. Thicker, coarser and shorter hairs hardly hurt at all IMO, but it also depends on the area and how used to it you are, the more you epilate an area, the less painfull it gets over time.

It depends on the hairs. If they're sparse and soft, epilator barely hurts, so it's better than waxing. If they're hard (after shaving) and they're all over the place, epilator is torturous! It's far less painful to wax big areas with hair density than the killing-me-softly epilator approach.

Basically, someone who wants to try epilating needs to wax first, and then start epilating a few days later, when the first hairs grow. This way it won't hurt so much and gradually, all the hairs will grow weaker and the procedure will be less painful. The less "dense" the hairs are, the less pain you have, until you feel no pain at all (I've reached this point with my legs, praying for the same painless epilating in thigh area too...)

Also, it helps if you get a wet&dry epilator and use it in the shower, with hot water, as it opens up the pores and it's less painful. Scrubing beforehand helps, too, so hairs won't turn inwards.
