There have been rumors about this for a couple of days and Square has just confirmed it to be true.

Some quotes:

From Square: “will allow the development teams time to further polish and conduct quality testing so that the reality of the game can match the expectations of both the fans and the creative teams.â€

From Tabata: “From the moment we joined this project, our vision was to create a level of freedom and realism previously unseen in the series. Regrettably, we need a little bit more time to deliver on this vision and are confident that this new release date will help us achieve this. As the director and lead of this project, I wish to personally apologize for the additional wait. As a team, we want Final Fantasy XV to achieve a level of perfection that our fans deserve. We kindly ask for your understanding.â€

Guess it could be worse.

At least this game is getting a simultaneous release worldwide. With the past games, Japan got it first, while everybody else had to wait 1-2 years for it. Which to me doesn't make sense during the last-gen console cycle. At least now their getting the idea.

Seriously? Again? The quality better be top notch after like ten years of waiting.

The game didn't enter full development until 2012. They just revealed the plan too early, but really it's 4 years of development a game as opposed to 10. That said, they tried to make up for revealing it too early by making an Anime series based on the characters of the game, a feature film (110 minutes) in CGI which occurs to other characters, and a shitton of other things for fans which have to be pretty costly.

As for the game itself, considering how many games are released unfinished, I don't mind delays anymore. Just release a full game that's not broken.

I was hyped for it when it was FF XIII Versus. they promised release on the same/similar date as FF XIII. I don't care for reasons tbh. They announced the game to fans in 2006. If they weren't working on the project, it is their problem, not mine. As a fan of FF I-X, I'm seriously over their bs.

They held an entire event to announce the release date.....

Good lord this company is a mess.

LMAO i was gonna make a comment about this in the OP but i was trying to contain my negativity about the game and decided to leave it out. But you're not wrong.

I'm not even anticipating this game, I was talking in general with other games that have been released unfinished.

But seriously, what the hell happened to Final Fantasy? It used to be a respected brand.

You can always rely on me for some healthy bitterness and negativity!

I'm not really surprised, and I'm still hyped to play the game. It's just if you're questioning the timing of a release, why announce a specific date? It really shows a lack of growth from their very first reveal of the game way back in 06. They're still making the same mistake of hyping something up in an unhealthy time frame.

Still, hope this means the game gets a good polish and it turns out as great as it looks!

You know why they delayed it? Its not polishing. :D I bet its because this shit happened:

One man, two years, Unreal Engine, inspired by FF13versus, what he showed was same or more promising looking than everything FFXV related Square released. People were giving them a lot of shit because of that. You know... We are really waiting for the game for 10years. They didnt delayed it enough to make any major changes in the game, not even to "polish" it.

That looks gorgeous. But I think the reason has more to do with the patch that will force late September-released games to upgrade to PlayStation NEO standards.

They're suing him? WTF?

Cant speak Japanese so I cant offer you 100% news, but translated news said they are thinking about lawsuit for using their designs, others said Sony noticed him and is interested in his work.

So, let's hope it's the latter.

Probably a good thing. I've played more than my fair share of rushed games and it's never pretty...

This game started development in 2006, it is the exact opposite of being rushed lmao

This game was basically put on hold, scrapped, and redone completely. It's really only been in development for like 3-4 years.
