thats why you shouldnt wait last minute

honestly i was hoping congress would fuck up obamacare and get it reversed.. there has to be an exception can't penalize people when they can't sign up..the government has to take that into consideration..unless that's their plan to hit americans and get money from peeps getting penalized

"When somebody Age:21 realizes they have to folk over $200-$300/month, when they previously didn't pay a dime because they were broke and only made $7.25/hr at the local store, you won't find many opting into buying insurance. Instead they'll just take the fine which is just $96.00 a year. Which makes more sense, $96yr or $3000yr?"

wait what....the penalty is just $96 a year? I think i'll just take the penalty hit then lol

I'm also taking the penalty, because *after* the monthly premium, there's also this lovely thing called a deductible - which you pay before the insurance pays out.

If I just had the premium to worry about, I'd probably cope with being even poorer but at least being able to see a doc for preventive care and emergencies... but the deductible makes the entire thing useless. Which is *exactly* what insurance companies count on.

You pay the premium, but can't afford the deductible, so they never pay a dime.

i am curious how much insurance would cost me...i opted out of my work's insurance because cost was so high because my work is considered "high risk" and wanted to charge me $112 a week.....fuck all that lol.. but if i get in a accident or something happens i'm out of luck .

edit: and while i'm searching obamacare on search engines for help...i found it funny while this obamacare mandate is stressing people out obama is in hawaii for 17 day  vacation just chillin out lol

My state went with the federal site (healthcare.gov) and I went through the setup crap a couple of weeks after it went live.

I was convinced I was doing something wrong because I knew 'affordable' was part of the idea, but nothing I was given as an option matched the meaning of the word.

Like everybody else, you weighed your options. If your pay isn't high enough to compensate for spending that much on coverage, I certainly don't blame you for opting out. I dunno if the ACA takes into account high risk work - I can't remember if I was asked about my job for it.

Not Obama's fault people wait till the last minute. The deadline's been out there for months.

Probably those people who really need health care will sign up like those who have some form of illness.

I see. A lot with Obama care is such a clusterfuck right now that I don't know if it will ever work. Those demanding tiers are being ignored and they might start raising hell soon. I really think that the penalty thing is a bit of a stretch when things are not so promising.

To be frank, I think Obama Care is a mess.  The premiums have gone up for many people and the deductible have increased significantly also.

In addition, with the number of healthy, young people not signing up, this significantly decreases defraying the cost by having a large number of healthy pool of insured members offset the sick members who will use the insurance benefits.

With this scenario, the numbers/cost for the health care is bound to go up and insurance companies will have increase the premiums even more than what they are or increase the already high deductible even more.

Insurance companies made certain assumptions when they calculated those premiums and the way things are going, those numbers aren't going to add up.

I mean seriously, I think the deductibles for the insurances are in the 3 - 5 k$.  Even with penalty, an average healthy individual will not need to spend that much for their out of pocket expense for their health care needs.  So from a healthy, young individual's standpoint, there is no incentive to join.

Mean while, if I remember correctly, while insurance company cannot deny you insurance based on your preexisting condition, they can ask for higher premiums.

This generally means that the sick person is priced out from the affordability stand point

lol .... this thread is pretty much the epitome of the nonsense that is Obamacare.

Nobody knows what the hell is going on.

I'll help y'all out though.....Today is deadline for coverage starting at the New Year... like if you want healthcare on January 1st.

Initially the penalty deadline was not until Feb 2014....but because the sign up process was so messy out-gate, they gave a grace period into March 2014... last day in March I believe.

Intelligent Millennials in droves will  be incurring these penalties. If enough people under 35 opt for penalty, Federal will have to make up the difference. Until the government can create a system that is less about the obviously poorer 20 somethings in USA, subsidizing the medical costs of the much wealthier 65+, I wouldn't sign up for Obamacare either. $250 minimum monthly premiums for fresh out of uni 20 somethings who can't get jobs but will also probably not even utilise the insurance? Jokes.

learn stuff.

I have to imagine, that a lot of the people on here who champion the Affordable Care act, are still young, don't live on their own, won't be paying their own premiums... or don't even live in the US.... but stop blindly heralding this act as a godsend. It is great in theory, but sloppy and shit in execution. The only way to rectify it, is to oppose it.

Health care should be there for everybody period.

It's a good thing that health care is mandatory but it has to stay affordable if you want it to be mandatory. Take Holland for example. Health care is mandatory here but you can get it for €80 and for those who don't have a lot of money you get about €70 back from the government each month.

The US always gives socialism a bad name but hey...it's pretty damn awesome
