I wanted to know how you guys felt about people constantly saying "oh so-and-so's solo should be next; as long as it is a ballad they will be just as successful as Kyu".

 

These are just my jumbled thoughts (so my writing is pretty jumbled up as well I apologize) and I am probably going to be neg'd for this but...

 

My personal thoughts: NO. There are many factors that went into Kyu's successful solo. There are many talented idols in SM, but Kyu has a one of a kind vocal tone that makes his songs so comfortable to listen to and that's why the Korean public likes his music so much. He doesn't need to sing while cringing his face, or make totally crazy adlibs to make his song great.  Just his voice is enough.

 

When people say Y**sung (I am just going to use him as an example because other than T**yeon, who I think does not have the ambitions of becoming a solo artist, Y**sung is the next SM idol people want as a soloist) would be just as successful because his OST's have been somewhat successful, I still don't think he would have done as great as Kyu as a solo artist.  First of all, Kyu has all these connections to famous composers in Korea.  And these composers have always complimented Kyu.  Yoo Young Suk just adores Kyu to the point that he thinks Kyu is the best idol vocalist (in which I would have to agree).  There was that one composer (forget his name) who literally cried when Kyu sang for his song "Wish", because he felt he couldn't finish the song with just the TVXQ members alone (I am sorry TVXQ fans!).  With all these famous composers composing songs for Kyu's album, the songs in his album no doubt would be of high quality.  I don't think Y**sung has that kind of connections. And his vocal tone is indeed unique since it is husky and he has a unique way of singing, but I don't think it is a vocal tone where Koreans can constantly listen to his songs and not get sick of listening to it over and over again.  I have read so many comments on Melon where Koreans have said that they absolutely love Kyu's vocal tone and his voice is so comfortable to listen to that they have constantly put his songs on repeat.

 

 

 

 

I am probably going to be negg'd for this too:

 

I know a lot of people have compared him with S**ng Si Ky*ng, but as much as I like SSK, he (and surprisingly quite a lot of other Koreans agree, that he sort of has a greasy(?) vocal tone). SSK's vocal techniques are superior compared to Kyu, but I don't think he has as much versatility as Kyu. Kyu can sing powerful ballad songs too, for example Inoo, but I don't think powerful ballads would ever suit SSK.

 

 

 

 

Okay, I got that off my chest. I know my opinions are probably not a very popular one, but this thread (the Kyu forum) has always been open to different perspectives, so I thought I would share my thoughts here.

Hi thurrr~ it has indeed been a while. I love reading his musical reviews and I agree, even though I've only seen like 1 scene. I was just really impressed with his acting and singing and like the role he took on and I'm glad someone who actually watched the thing feels the same way.

 

About that, a few twitter friends of mine who went to watch his musical said the same thing. I'm thinking it has to do with his solo success.

 

Robin Hood seems nice enough. I mean I wasn't expecting something along the lines of TMETS, actually the only thing I really hoped for was a song a la Nightmare or Even Though I Loved and if I may believe fanaccounts then there is going to be a heart wrenching solo song.

Also, this appeared on my tl earlier and I tweeted asking for Kyu cuts but my tlist is worthless smh.

 

 

 

It's about idol/musical actors and seems like there was a Kyu segment. I don't know what it precisely is about, but it's nice that they included him.
