So I'm basically really mad at Kyu and his duet choices. He gets to sing /two/ duets, but what does he get? A silly one in which he's wearing a black suit with a giant strawberry on his head. And another one with Seo. The song is called "Beautiful" by some girl and Justin Bieber and the song is as basic as it can get.

 

I'm just really mad at whoever chose these and I would much prefer it if he sang a duet with Ryeowook.

And it's all just fanservice, that's what the fans want so that's what they get. And I guess they have to try and incorporate more than one group into the solos because it's SMTown.

I know it is, but I'm just done with silly stages. You want to be taken seriously as a singer, but you go and sing stuff like this?

 

I only mentioned Wook because if he were his partner I could be assured they'd be choosing vocally oriented songs. It is not because I'm against joint stages. There's all types of fanservice, why choose being ridiculous?

 

This is all how I personally feel about it, I'm sure many would disagree because they can perfectly enjoy stuff like this. But not me.

But being silly isn't the only type of fanservice there is and it's definitely not the type Kyuhyun is most suited for. They performed Sorry Sorry Answer for SMT NY and it left a huge impression on everyone.

 

Considering he doesn't do much singing lately, I would've hoped at least one of the special stages he participated in would come up to my expectations.

I'm kinda feeling the same although I really want to wait for fancams before passing judgement.

 

I don't really mind it that there is a strawberry hat involved and all that since fans are always complaining that he doesn't do other genres and is always singing boring ballads, etc. This is a whole different new genre for him and it's obviously something that has been put together especially for the Japanese audience which I consider to show a certain level of thoughtfulness on their part. Besides the JTWYA stage was so done by now. Time to move on.

 

As for the Seohyun duet, I'm honestly kinda bummed. They already had a duet stage for the whole of the last SMT tour. I'd much more have liked it if they'd shuffled it up a bit. Besides, she really isn't on his level in terms of skills so that means they end up singing these really basic songs that don't showcase him at all.

 

And I hear you guys saying that it's fan service-y SMTown but not all the special stages are always vapid. Yesung, Ryeowook and Onew sang a Japanese song at SMT 2011 that actually required some singing and was applauded by many and even reported in the media... iirc. So it being SMT isn't really an excuse.

 

But, I still wanna see those fancams.

MTE. And tbh, I would've been able to tolerate any of the stages if the other one wasn't such a letdown.

 

Having read fanaccounts and listened to the original versions of the songs, I'm not having high expectations at all. They sing a cute, cheesy song and Kyuhyun gives Seo a rose. Basically:

 

 

I'm not thrilled with it either, but I can see why they're doing it. And they probably chose being ridiculous because Kyuhyun is known for always singing ballads and slow songs etc. And it's a bit of fun, I probably wont enjoy watching it but if the Japanese do then that's great. Just the way you are was filled with sappy fanservice, and this is a different type. The SeoKyu duet makes me sad, they've done it for the past 2 SMTowns, I have no rebuttal for that.

 

But this is just one SMTown stop, hopefully it'll only be for Japan and not the rest of the tour.

He doesn't necessarily have to sing a ballad. Enough other genres he could do that would showcase his worth.

 

Yeah, the ChangKyu duet will be different for other stops, since it's a Japanese song but I'm pretty sure the SeoKyu duet will be the same.

Yeah.. I don't really like that (SM) pairing tbqh.. I'd rather see him sing with someone he really is friends with like Victoria or someone who has better vocal technique like Luna or Taeyeon tbqh. Don't get me wrong though, I like Seohyun plenty but she's not my favorite vocalist from SNSD to pair up with Kyu.

 

Ugh the Ichigo song/dance with Changmin, I looooove those two. Cannot emphasize enough.

I'm just hoping they look less awkward together on stage cause some of their previous performances were cringeworthy.

 

I would love for him to sing a duet with Taeyeon, something R&B or even a power ballad.

It's cute enough. He indeed sounds lovely and she seems to be doing well too.

 

Actually the more I think about it, when considering the fact it's that particular song where the male is featured in the female's song and that Seohyun is also playing the guitar in the performance as well as the fact that Kyuhyun still did his regular changkyu stage regardless of this being added to the show, I'm thinking this collab might have kinda been her thing to begin with i.e. her idea of what she wanted to do for the concert. And that she just asked him to sing it with her because they had sang together before and she feels comfortable with him.

 

I'm obviously just speculating but from that audio clip I just got the impression that it was more of a Seohyun feat. Kyuhyun thing than a duet per se.

 

 

 

I didn't find that talk all that surprising or scandalous to begin with. He has stated before that he prefers ordinary people over celebrities so that bit was old news anyway. I did find the bit about him feeling pressured about successful women quite disappointing but it was something that Lady Jane said Ryeowook had told her so it might just be a joke or even quasi-malicious hearsay on his part to begin with.

 

At the same time I'm pretty certain Kyuhyun holds pretty traditional attitudes about many things in life and family and marriage are probably some of those things. Still, it comes off a bit insecure and that's never attractive.

Hmm, makes sense. It does seem like that's the case.

 

 

Most men are like that, I guess. Having a significant other who earns more than they do would hurt their ego.

 

Edit: I hope this didn't sound like I was trying to excuse it. I too don't find it a desirable trait.

Well, everything about Kyu tells us that he is a very down to earth person. His fashion without help from stylist is so simple. His choice lately is jeans + shirt ( gifts from fan, wear whatever it is)+ ahjumma bag+ mask + sandal/shoes depend on weather, yeah, without matching. I find it quite amusing that with other members are so fashionable, Kyu does not get affected by that fact one bit. Reporters/ fans keep taking photos but that mask cover it all. Hahaha, even the reporter has nothing to write except ' kyu with mask fashion '  )
And no, i dont complain here, actually I has finally accept this fashion is a part of his personality. Nothing can be done except the tired eyes can be cured by enough sleep.

Also, He often meets his friends, classmates, gamers, close celebrities. I'm happy that he is good in maintaining relationship for many years and not limited to entertainment circle. Thats probably why he doesn't want to date celebrity. Tbh, i think these females are pretty materialistic and if they break up afterwards, they will feel awkward as they often meet each other at concerts/shows.

Haha, and the third thing is he has money conscious mind. Before he buy car, house are all for his parents, just in 2012 he bought a car for himself ( i remember a radio show where shindong said this) . Audi, is it? It must be because siwon gets him some discount ;)) i never see him lavishing on anything except for European trips. basically, his clothes are prepared by fans, his food and accomodation are provided by SM ( except his private gathering ofc) . I wonder what he will do with these million of dollars..probably saving for producing his own album( my wish)

I haven't watched that Radio Star episode, so I can't really comment on that, but I do think they are still very close. Ryeowook mentions him on Sukira like All. The. Time. He might've been more openly affectionate towards him back in the day, but if you ask me who I think are the closest with Kyu, one would definitely be Ryeowook.

I'm an equal-opportunity shipper as well. If Kyuhyun likes I like but I don't really see much point in crack-ships and shipping just because you think they'd look good together etc. If there's no interaction, why even bother? I guess it can't even be called shipping. I don't actively want Kyuhyun to have any special relationships with anyone, it's just that when he does I oftentimes find it kinda fascinating in a totally non-creepy way.

 

Except I guess a special ship or pairing of mine would be Kyuhyun and Siwon. I don't think they're in luuuurve or anything like that but oftentimes I stumble upon fancams or photos of the two of them and think 'what the hell is going on over there?' And yes, it's just Siwon being Siwon and all that but imho people are kidding themselves (perhaps for the sake of their own competing ships) if they think that it goes only one way... No. Kyuhyun can be quite - for a lack of a better word - flirtatious. And I don't mean that he wants to bone Siwon but he knows exactly which stunts to pull and buttons to push to get Siwon all riled up and then goes ahead and acts all scandalized when Siwon ultimately eventually pounces.

 

It's obviously some game of theirs that may or may not be played for the fandom's benefit but I admit I'm not above it. I am amused, intrigued even. Siwon gets to do stuff to Kyuhyun that no one else does and brings out behaviour that I never thought I'd see from him.

 

So yeah... I guess I kinda have an quasi-OTP after all.

 

Omg you are me. I also don't really have an OTP, but I looove WonKyu interactions for the same reasons you mentioned. I would always read stuff about Kyuhyun not being comfortable with Siwon's advances, y'know things people tend to say to feel better about their flop OTP (I actuallly tweeted this some time ago and damn did it get people riled up lmao). The way I see it, he seems to perfectly enjoy all of the attention Siwon gives him and there are times he even (subtly) provokes him.

 

I don't thinkl they're actually in love, despite the possibility being there, but I've had some wtf-moments. Like..

Truth is, I just love how Siwon seems to be so fond of Kyuhyun. He truly cherishes him and I really appreciate that. Having in mind that infamous Radio Star episode where ShinTeuk and to a lesser extent Eunhyuk had made it to their life goal to make Kyuhyun as uncomfortable as possible and then there was Siwon... the song he chose, the things he said about him and the way he answered that ending question. It just tells me that he truly cares for Kyuhyun and I love him for that.

No but seriously people taking that tone with 'wonkyu', making Siwon into some kind of predator and Kyuhyun into a hapless victim really bothers me a lot. If ever in doubt you just have to watch this vid.

 

 

 

Siwon is perfectly fine minding his own business and drinking his drink and Kyuhyun just keeps on prodding and poking (not to mention singing, smiling and caressing) until Siwon goes along with it. You cannot blame Siwon for all of it. You just can't.

 

As an added bonus. Kyuhyun sings absolutely gorgeously every single Mandarin love song he can't think of in that video. Every Kyu fan regardless of ship should watch it if you haven't yet.

 

Also, did you know that that song Siwon chose to be played on RS "You were born to be loved" was actually a song that Kyuhyun's church sang to him after he was released from the hospital in 2007?

It annoys me because they make Kyuhyun come across as some arrogant jerk who considers Siwon not worthy of his attention or something, when that's definitely not the case.

About shipping in general, I agree with y'all. It's all nice and harmless and all, but when people take it too seriously, it becomes creepy and annoying.

 

And not shading any of the other members but I love how, despite being part of many popular OTPs, Kyu's popularity doesn't rely on that stuff for the biggest part. I guess him not being one to encourage fanservice (much) helps.
