So Kyu finally doing some singing on RS, but being paired up with someone who can't hold a tune. I mean it was cute how he tried to make it work and he sounded amazing and the girl was adorable but why not duet with guests like Younha and Baek Jiyeon(?). ;;

Continues to be reminded of Kyu's awesomeness. I just watched the 100% entertainment episode and he literally used Chinese throughout the whole thing, despite having a hard time finding the words at times. Like I think he spoke Korean once and he talked quite a bit.

Finally a gig I thoroughly approve of. Idk if it's just wishful thinking, but I hope this is a step towards him establishing more of a singing image, like he promised. He might not be singing at all, but this is maybe a chance to flaunt his knowledge he acquired as an idol/singer + post modern music graduate.

I read different translations and the bolded part in the following trans makes it seem like someone (the company, I would assume?) actually set the target and is controlling his food intake, rather than him being egged on to do so by the complaints as implied in the other translation. So if any of you coughevenastoppedclockcough could clear this up for me?

To those wondering whom he might be referring to with "people around me". I read once that SM tends to monitor comments on the internet and when there'd be many mentions of weight (gain) they would make them go on a diet. I took it with a grain of salt, but honestly, it doesn't seem that far fetched.

Oh, I hadn't considered his actual degree. For some reason the idea of him talking about stuff he learned in college is hilarious to me but if he did, it might lend a bit more credence. Unless it would lead people to poke at his education...

That's what I'd translate his tweet as. He's making it sound like the diet is self-imposed based on the unsolicited words of 'people around him', which could mean friends/family, members, coworkers, netizens, fans, the company...who knows? The diet could very well be coming down from higher up, but I don't think the 5kg goal was set by anyone else.

 

Using 'ì‹ë‹¨ì¡°ì ˆ'...controlled diet my foot. Pro-tip, Kyuhyun (and anyone else on a diet): one meal a day is a very bad thing.

I think the reason idols who go to college get flack is because they get in using their celebrity status and since Kyuhyun got in the regular way, they can't use that against him.

my korean isn't that great, but as far as i can interpret, the phrase "주위 ì‚¬ëžŒë“¤ì˜ ë§ì— 5kgê°ëŸ‰ì„ 목표로 ì‹ë‹¨ì¡°ì ˆì„ 하고있었는ë°" means something like, "based on the words of people around me, i started a diet with a target weight loss of 5kg." it's more than possible that SM was the one who recommended the diet to him, but i don't think he would state that outright, since SM would get a lot of flack for forcing their idols to eat a single bowl of porridge a day.

What I'm trying to figure out, though, is if he's eating one porridge meal per day because of the enteritis (I'm assuming porridge would be bland and fairly easy on upset innards), or if one porridge meal per day is his diet of choice. I'm hoping it's the former, because the latter is just a goddamn stupid and unhealthy way to diet, and regardless of whether it is the latter or not, I'd really like to give everyone who pestered him about his weight a swift kick in the ass.

The way I read it's the former. Like, he was planning on losing 5kg through a diet. But then he got sick and ended up not being able to eat much + no alcohol, so he lost 4kg "without really trying". Hence the last sentence, like he ended up achieving his goal but only because he got sick.

 

Yeah I really hope he dishes out some real pointers to the contestants, something that'll show that he actually is knowledgeable about this stuff, knows his craft and is in a position to judge. Not just the token witty guy or even worse, token mean guy. I mean I don't mind judges being frank but I think on this subject of singing and in this situation I think I'd rather see the compassionate sunbaenim...

 

 

I guess if it was SM putting pressure on him it could be seen as something good just in the sense that at least it would show that the company still cares..? That they have confidence that the guys can still attract new fans and endorsements.

 

But really, it could be anyone. In SK it seems like comments about weight gain and unapologetically telling friends and loved-ones that they need to lose weight is not quite the taboo it can be in some other places.

That's exactly what I hope and expect for him to do. Like take it seriously and don't try to incorporate your Radio Star persona into this show. Different show, different approach and I hope he sees this too. I guess we'll see how it turns out...in like a month or so.

Since we are/were doing throwbacks let me take you back to one of my very first recollections of my Kyu stanning journey, how it all began, the day I lost my soul to the devil in the form of an angel voiced gamer nerd.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I can't even explain what got me going so gaga over him, it's like his whole demeanor during the show. The way he aced the challenges, his voice, the Sung Sikyung impersonation, the way he sorta flirted with the gag woman, his embarrassed laughs. I must've replayed his part near the end of the 2nd video at least a hundred times. Anyway, really worth watching if you haven't already and worth rewatching if you have.

jfc, this is the season of me being wrong about every single kyu-related thing. I give up.

 

And agreed about that Song Battle, for all the reasons you listed. It would have one of the first thing I watched after my 'discovery' of Kyuhyun. It/he was so lovely.

Idg him anymore. His passion for singing far outweighed his willingness to provide cheap entertainment at some point. Nowadays I'm not so sure. Anyway, I guess I can appreciate him doing the crawling move.

 

 

I had the tiniest tiniest hope that they will do an acoustic or rock rendition minus the drag and all but... I guess we just have to abandon all hope regarding Kyu-stuff.

I think I can appreciate the crawling if he wore suits while doing it.

I sorta do expect him to indulge in some serious singing activities with the comeback. Idk why I do orz. The judging gig is a nice start though.

 

I'm a fan of Girl's Day and I like the song so I'm fine with him doing it, but according to fanaccs they're only doing the dancing aspect so I'm disappointed......... It'll be fun to watch him do the choreo and enjoy performing with kyuline and him having fun is most important to me so it's not too bad I guess.

I'd really look forward if singing was involved :ccc

 

The least they could've done is record their own version even if they don't sing it live smh.

 

I know I'll probably end up smiling seeing him stunteling his way through the performance and just have fun with his friends and I wouldn't have minded at all if he had another less fanservicey stage prepared, but this isn't the case. I'm not saying he should give up on entertainment entirely, just that it should be more balanced.

Kyuhyun looks freaking damn hot in the teaser holy cow, despite the...questionable hair. The way he's holding the gun turns me on and I love the smoldering gaze and the eyebrows. Not too sure about the concept, which might eigher turn out amazingly well or when done wrong extremely horrible. With SM's record I might as well prepare for the latter but oh well, I'll be satisfied as long as Kyu gets to showcase some killer vocals.
