It's true that Jay Park doesn't seem like a guy Kyu would get along with, but I love that they do. Interesting friendship.

 

Well there isn't much going on in Kyu-verse and it seems like we've mostly exhausted all the other topics of discussion at least for now so whatcha gonna do?  

 

As much as I'm always wishing for all sorts of new activities and excitement on the Kyuhyun/Suju/kpop front, tbh I find myself really glad that he has been allocated this time to properly rehearse and prepare for the musical. I don't know what it is but I really get the feeling that this musical is more consequential in terms of scale of the production and importance than the other two were. I would hate for him not being able to show his best due to scheduling issues.

 

Although I know it's completely forbidden and kinda illegal I'm really hoping to see at least some fancams from the show. I would really hate to miss out since actually attending is and never was an option for me.

 

 

Ok, topic: What are your feelings about a possible SJM comeback? Yay or nay?

 

Since both of the subgroups' main vocals have weekly (in Wookie's case daily) engagements in Korea we would probably be looking at another round of Breakdown-style half-assed promotion run and definitely no long stay. Yes, we would be getting some new music, a few lip-synched performances on local TV-shows and a few variety appearances and fancams from a fanparty. But would it be worth it with even more sleepy-Kyu being carted around airports, possibly botched musical performances, pissed ELF complaining about SJM and EXO-M bundle deals and the sad state of their Mandarin abilities?

 

Honestly, I'm not too sure myself. New music is always new music and I adooooore Kyuhyun singing in Mandarin. But if it's not well done it might just not be worth the hassle.

 

So, any takers?

I share your opinion on this. *surprise surpise* Break Down was quite the let down and not only in terms of promotions imo. The title track was great, but the rest of the album was totally forgettable. I'd rather they focus on an SJ album.

I know some people use that video as proof that aha! Kyu must not like Zhou Mi and Mi is just forcing himself on him but you know what I see? Kyu being cranky and moody, so it says more about him than anything else tbh.

If you're referring to my post, I really don't see how you could draw such a conclusion from it. I do believe that he gets along with Zhoumi but that situation just looked really awkward to me. Him being moody or cranky or annoyed once in a while is hardly a bad thing tbh.

I mostly have a problem with it when I suspect that it's only said as a joke, since it's an extremely overused one. Like Bada, a former SM artist, who said she didn't know he was from Super Junior. And then fans found this picture.

What do they say about Kyu Hwon and the musical?

This fan is a fan of Kang Pilsuk, the actor who played Yangmyung on Kyuhyun’s first stage as King Lee Hwon. Her fan account was mostly Kang Pilsuk-centered since she’s a fan of him. However she mentioned Kyuhyun too in her fan account. 

Although she preferred Kang Pilsuk way more than Kyuhyun (obvious, since she is his fan after all), she said it absolutely didn’t mean Kyuhyun was not great. After seeing Kyuhyun in real life, she said Kyuhyun was really handsome (lol).

The fan praised Kyuhyun’s singing skill and said,

"Also!!! Ah really…!! Actor Kyuhyun really really sang well! The applause came out naturally…I was reluctant (to watch) because they said idols would appear, but (Kyuhyun’s) singing skill was really incredible!!"

 

However, she also stated one point that she was disappointed a bit in the musical. She said she couldn’t feel the manly charm and image of Lee Hwon because the Lee Hwon (that Kyuhyun was playing) showed more of an image where he played too much jokes and restless (which to be exact, she used 깨방정). If the Lee Hwon 8 years ago acted like that, she’d understand since he was 15, but if even after 8 years he didn’t change and was still like that, it’s a bit weird for her. 

Another thing she mentioned was that she heard some other people commented when Lina and Kyuhyun were together, Lina looked like his auntie. The fan said she didn’t think like that and said Lina was rather beautiful in real life.

I tried to look for more comments but these were the best I could find that fit my criteria of comment. I actually found more fan accounts from Kyuhyun’s fans which I haven’t read all of them, but if I find anything interest, I will write another post.

Also, not really a fan account but there were some comments on the articles of “The Moon That Embraces The Sun†press call. The comments were something that I found to be nonsense because some people were just judging Kyuhyun and Seohyun’s musical skill when they most likely have not even seen Kyuhyun and Seohyun’s performances. Some said Seohyun and Kyuhyun were only cast because of their idol’s ticket power. While it may be true, but I feel it’s not fair to already judge them before watching their performances. I think it’s also unfair for the amount of hard work that Seohyun and Kyuhyun have poured for this musical.

Btw, a question guys. Do you think that Kyu changed his vocal mix for the musical? I know that some point this year his voice got very 'bright' but it seems to have 'deepened' again (not that I am complaining  ). *sorry if I am using all the wrong technical terms and stuff cos' I am not good at these sorts of things*   

 

I think it's possible to adjust your mix, according to how you want something to sound. Like, including more chest to sound deeper or more head to sound brighter. I mainly noticed that he sounds more powerfull than ever. He really is giving his all.

edit : oh, idk if this the choice of Seohyun or not but seems like she refuse the kiss scene at the ending. i saw her curtain call from her show 2 days ago but the stage light is off at the end. i guess different actor/actress different preference.

I recall both Kyuhyun and Ryeowook at one point mentioning that they were rarely allowed to go on variety shows (bad trans maybe? Or do they mean solo appearances?) because SM didn't want them to lose / tarnish their image of "main vocalists" by doing silly or outrageous variety-show fodder antics, I wonder if that's why Kyu was so quiet on variety shows in the past?  But since they're older and I feel, so established they don't need to maintain some pre-fabricated image dictated by SM, they are allowed to do whatever they wish?  RW's comments on Sukira and his appearance on RS certainly show he's not a quiet person (in fact, quite witty and sharp as Kyuhyun!), and Kyu as we all have seen is so comfortable on his own in variety now.  I really do wonder if that had something to do with it.

 

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was the same with EXO (being made to walk on eggshells to avoid saying things that might offend a new and growing fandom, and so being a little "dull" at variety or however you want to call it --- I do think Chanyeol is superb in both EXO Showtime & LOTJ).

 

Ryeowook is imo the boldest in his talking, but it's left unnoticed because that's not how fans want to see him? Kinda like how the sweet things Kyuhyun says and does are left unnoticed or considered unusual when both are quite prevelant. It's like once fans have a certain image of the members, it's set in stone and no amount of contradicting occurences could ever change it.

 

lol yeah, and for kyuhyun's lack of emotion, people can think any way they like, it's their opinion, I just sometimes can't stand it when someone, subconsciously think that something which clearly is their opinion to be an absolute fact. It irks me off, but yeah what can we do lol, I just need to shake this feeling off and focus on other things lol, and I like his singing just fine too, I even have few ost that he sung, he's good.

 

I honestly believe people only use that as a way to downplay his singing (since there is no other) rather than actually feeling that way. Heck, I'm pretty sure half of the people saying that haven't listened much to his singing to begin with. Not long ago it was his lack of technique or range people used to pick on. It was only after the surge of vocal gurus did people resort to the "lacks emotion" excuse. Note that most people who bring it up are usually fans of the challenged party.

 

I guess it's kind of a compliment that he gets discussed so much. To see fans of J, who people, fans and non-fans, used to believe was the God of vocals, feeling threatened. You can feel their exasperation. 

 

Still going back to the 'best singer' comparisons between Kyuhyun and J. If you've had enough, feel free to skip over. I just find it kinda fascinating...

 

Anyway, I just remembered reading this old forum with a thread from 2008 comparing Kyuhyun and Charice's A Whole New World to J and Boa's one. Some commentators were very adamant that J was the best, vocal god, none can compare, etc. but surprising quite a few were willing to concede that yes, Kyuhyun and Charice's performance was better.

 

But reading all that you just really had to bare in mind what a non-threat Kyuhyun would have been to J's position as the best singer in SM, nay the kpop industry at large. Kyu had debuted a few years back to stand in the back of a 13-person group only to get into a serious accident a year later and then been whisked away to China. Cassies probably knew of him and knew him to be part of the SJ vocal line but I doubt that meant anything to them at all. TVXQ were the gods and Super Junior were the rejects, the not-good-enoughs.

 

So when it came to judge the performances they (Cassies and others who were commenting on the thread) had no big quarrels in admitting one duet to be better and even that Kyuhyun did a better job than J. At the same time, they had their explanations ready. Quite a few laid the blame of the other duet's failure on Boa, saying that her singing and English pronunciation were awkward and had J been singing with Charice, he would have been awesome seeing how she brought the best out of Kyuhyun's singing. And that the song was more suited to Kyuhyun's range, etc. etc. None of them even entertained the thought that maybe Kyuhyun just sang better than J. Not one. Such a thing was not even possible in the international kpop fandom of 2008.

 

So the fact that nowadays Kyuhyun gets pitted against J so often shows how the tides have changed and the shared common perception of kpop fans has as been permuted with the alternative narrative of Kyuhyun being the best male vocalist in kpop. I actually don't think ELF are the reason behind this change. ELF can lay down the most intricate explanations about sales, popularity, netizen comments, peer comments, polls, you name it, and it'll be like screaming into the wind. No one listens because they are ELF i.e. bat-shit.

 

I think the change in narrative has been a product of the emergence of the vocal pedagogy crowd who have been battling it out on several international kpop forums for years now. I think it has gotten picked up by a lot of non-ELF who don't necessarily like Kyuhyun or his singing all that much, but are tired of Cassie arrogance on the subject. They might even secretly in their heart of hearts believe that their bias is the best but don't dare to admit it out loud. So they use Kyuhyun as a proxy to let it be known that they do not agree with these 'J is the best' assertions. Among ELF the view is probably a lot more pluralistic when a big portion of the fandom thinks that Yesung, Ryeowook, Kangin or even Donghae actually are the best.

 

So, I agree that the 'bestness' of a singer is subjective - as it should be. I obviously prefer Kyuhyun and I feel completely justified in my preference. But at the same time I do recognize that Kyuhyun's sudden emergence as a top kpop vocalist is the product of a new, more "educated" public perception as well as good old-fashioned bandwagoning.

 

This reminds me of a thread on Asianfanatics asking who people considered to be the best singer in SJ and a good amount actually chose Leeteuk. It was so random I laughed a little. Then again, it was from when people still spelled Yesung as Yehsung so there wasn't much material to go by, I guess.

hehehe, just reply it now because i watched the show with Lina too. just for some comparison to look how he act with 2 Yeonwoo. too bad the show with Seohyun is still far away so i can't watch. maybe later when they decide to going to Tokyo.

and he's good. his voice definitely better from the last time i watch him in musical. the musical itself is great, i mean watching all the spoiler before this actually made me know what i'm actually expect from this musical. and i don't know if someone mentioned it before but i love the lighting.

his singing ability improved but i actually focus on his acting more and somehow i want him take serious role in the future because he fit it really well. not that i don't like the playful or cute image but there are 3 musicals already from him when he acted like that, so serious role is definitely not a bad idea nevertheless he's cute, like really adorable hahahaha. and his pink hanbok is my favorite.

the other casts was amazing. i really like Jung Jaeun, her voice is really clear(though i like Lina's voice more) but she definitely better in acting. so i choose Lina for singing because her voice blend with Kyuhyun more, but Jaeun for acting^^

 

the diference between the show in 24 and 25 judging from the audience, i found more casual people watch the show in 24. there are more fans today.

 

and the kiss scene hahahahha, days ago i said seems like Seohyun avoid doing the last kiss scene but actually seems like all of them will avoid it. the light was off during the ending. but i think it's okay because it's not look awkward at all. but maybe for some fans who watched his first show and expect to seeing it again yesterday and today probably a lil bit disappointed

Jaeun and Kyuhyun?yessssss...probably because i don't even know her before and saw Kyuhyun manage to act well with someone we never see have interaction with him is so refreshing. like i said on my previous post, i definitely go for Jaeun if it's acting but Lina for singing.

 

overall the musical is great and beautiful, though i watched it for Kyu but all of the casts is amazing

and my fav is that white lady. she's amazing.

I love Kyuhyuk sfm. Oh and just a fyi, he said on that radio show (not this one but the one with that celeb who crushes on him....the one on song battle) that he has never dated anyone older than him. LOL So I guess he has only dated same aged people.

So apparently Yiruma has said something on a radio show about composing a song for Kyuhyun? No confirmation as of yet, Imma need a video of him saying it to believe it. But if it's true it means there actually is going to be a Kyu solo omf.
