FloralPastel 393
So yesterday, I had to get my blood taken. They called me in, sat me down and immediately started. The lady tied the tourniquet around me and immediately started tapping around to find a vein. She poked me like a bunch of times and still couldn't find a vein. She finally untied the tourniquet and it took a really long time for the blood to flow back to my hands. I told her if it was normal and she said yes but I'll admit I was a tad bit anxious that it took a bit long. I remained cool and gave her my other arm as she had asked for it but I honestly wish she'd let my other arm return back to normal first. She then tied the tourniquet on the other arm and after a few seconds, I remember saying, "I think I'm going to faint." It happened so fast, my vision got super blurry and I started hearing a low ringing noise and little to no sound to everything else that was going on in the room. My eyelids felt heavy, my face felt tingly and cold and I just remember sitting on the chair weak as hell. Luckily, some lady gave me sugar water and after a couple of sips my vision started returning back to normal but my hearing was still hazy. After I finished the water, I was sitting on the chair as they were monitoring me and after a few seconds I started becoming light headed again and they immediately made me lay down on the floor in front of me and covered me with the flannel that I initially had to take off. They propped my legs on top of the chair I was sitting on while sucking on a grape lollipop they gave me lol A few minutes went by and I went back to normal but I felt scared as hell after that. They weren't even able to get blood yet... In the end they weren't able to get any blood because of the sugar intake which means I'm going to have to go back again...I wasn't scared then but I sure as hell am now. ;-; I've gotten my blood taken 2 years ago and everything was fine. Same procedure too. Fast for 10 hours, went in the morning, peed and a cup and that was it. Why did I almost faint this time? asdfghjkl; it's all I've been thinking about today. Have you guys ever fainted from getting your blood taken? How was it? lol

Mees Madds 36,578
I was always fainting when i was younger. It happened even on the street. Someone gave me a lollipop then and my mouth clenched around it and that was even scarier for my mom. Since i've started eating something very soon after the blood taking I've been good but i still get lightheaded on the chair. I guess it's simply because i know the blood is pouring out of me or something. Try to breathe and think of something else. And find a better nurse. I just hope the cause of it is due to the fact that I had an empty stomach. ;;; I hope it doesn't happen next time. It was my first time feeling this way and freaked me the hell out. No. I watch myself get blood taken. Man, it just gushes into those vials, doesn't it? I can't watch myself because I'm wincing at the pain half the time and wondering when the hell they're going to take the band off but they have their vials on display on the counter for everyone to see apparently. It was the first and last thing I noticed when I walked out of the room. lol

I just dislike the sensation of blood being sucked out from me. My blood pressure getting lower and almost fainted because of it Oh no, I hope not. This is a first for me, I was completely fine last time. I would educate myself about it, but I'm too much of an anxious person to be able to deal with it afterwards so I probably shouldn't haha. They weren't able to get any blood though, they just pricked me a bunch of times.

Solfa 7,163
I have fainted twice. Both times happened right after I stood up. Both times I woke up in the clinic bed with my ears beeping and knees shaking, and with a cotton of alcohol near my nose.

How long were you unconscious for? Luckily, I only felt extreme lightheadedness for a couple of minutes and never fully blacked out. I'm sorry that happened to you though! Even for me who has difficult to find veins, it's rarely long enough to cause that much pain. There are people who don't take blood samples properly... I don't think it's the food, because it happened both times immediately afterwards. It's not the fear of needles for sure, I haven't fainted during vaccinations, so I didn't think the two would be different. I think it's the unpleasantness it left during the process drawing blood happened. Is that fear? I didn't mind at all before it happened, I was mentally ready. They put an elastic in my arm, I still felt fine, they started drawing blood, I felt a little off. After they were done, I stood up and according to those who were with me, walked a few steps and just fell down. I didn't stay for much, just a few minutes. The second time I tried looking away from the needle, because that's what I read I should do, yet it happened again. I went a third time like 2 months ago, I told the nurse for my previous incidents, she told me to lie down this time. I don't know why, but nothing happened the third time. I was fine. Even for me who has difficult to find veins, it's rarely long enough to cause that much pain. There are people who don't take blood samples properly... She told me I had tiny veins and that was the reason why she kept poking me with the needle. It felt like a long time because it took forever for blood to pool back into my hand. I legit was looking at my right arm trying to make it move after she tied the band around my other arm. Everything went down hill from there. That maybe true, I'll see if I can request a different person next time. I don't think it's the food, because it happened both times immediately afterwards. I might have to try that next time. I gained consciousness as soon I was lying down last time so I'll try to request that...and maybe bring a bottle of juice or something to consume afterwards. I swear I'm going to crawl my ass out of the room afterwards to prevent myself from falling face first if it happens.
