F4 was so big in Asia in almost an unparalleled sense?

This came up in a recent conversation with a few other friends who grew up in Asia. They were talking about how immense the impact of F4 was as a boyband because they were not simply based with a fandom but EVERYONE cared for them. Apparently they were huge (imagine like thrice the Song Joongki impact multiply by four boys) in China, Japan, and SEA.

Are there any F4 fans here? Would be nice to share anecdotes if you remember.

Adding this iconic MV no one ever forgets

My childhood lol. They were as big as the current top kpop groups, if not bigger. Just a different time :) Taiwanese dramas/groups were the trend then.

I remember when Meteor Garden was showing here in my country, all of the songs in our music chart top 10 were either Meteor Garden OST or F4 songs lol. Good times.

i kinda agree. True kpop and jpop have infiltrated all of asia but it's still among a niche group, I think

Meanwhile, F4 was a phenomenon among all ages. Spoilers for next episode of Meteor Garden was regularly included in our local news program ffs.

The success of F4 was the reason Boys Over Flowers and Hana Yori Dango (who are both huge successes in their own right) was made, altho I still prefer HYD.

HA? Really? I think the original version is Hana Yori Dango, but Taiwan made the live action (?) first than Japan themselves.

Just asking, lol

Yeah it was a successful Japanese manga that started it but it was only after Meteor Garden blew up in other countries outside Taiwan that the other countries actually took notice and SK and Japan made their versions iirc.

The fact that we already know the plot in Meteor Garden yet people still watch HYD and BOF (basically the same story) and both are also successful is a testament to how much the public really came to adore the group F4.

My childhood. They were so HUGE back then and they don't need fandom to be huge. I still remembered that practically everyone sell their merchandise, poster, etc etc and all girls buy it like crazy.

Possibly bigger than EXO and Bigbang.

But, bigger than Arashi, SMAP, and.... DBSK?

Not sure, about that. Even though their success is huge, they were a bubble since they don't mean to be made as long last group. And both Arashi and SMAP has been exist and popular for ten years if not more.

Aaaa my childhood. I had their CDs, poster, stickers, and even towel AHAHAHAH

Meteor Garden was huge in my country. All people — man, woman, old, young — knew them. There's even a knock off version of Meteor Garden lol

Even with the globalization and internet now, I don't think there's any group reach the same F4's public recognition back in their peak era (at least in my country)

my childhood! haha.. i remember i memorized most of their songs (and it's my first time doing so, outside of English and my first language)...

They also have concerts and stuff but i guess they aren't meant to stay together as a group (meant to have solo careers) unlike k-pop groups . so yeah, the popularity faded afterwards. many people will still remember them though. general public knows them (at least in my country)

  • 1 month later...

They were my first asian boyband. Although I didn't like Meteor Garden... y really enjoyed their music.

They recorded Meteor Garden 2 in my country. How can we not love them? :P

I cried a lot when they sang together in 2013 (New Year). Was so touching.

And last week, Ken Zhu confirmed that next year JVKV-F4 have plans together for 15th anniversary.

I'm so excited for this  XDDD

thats facts tbh

F4 was basically popular in the whole of ASIA

even people outside of asia knew who F4 was!

Meteor Garden was a massive drama!

I watch a few episode of meteor garden their always replay the episode even after more than 5 year in my country, like everyone who were born in 90 have heard the name tomingse at least once. They are more popular than any kpop boy group, just on par with super junior. I still remember many street vendor in school sell f4 photocard, like even kpop is popular it never like that.
