[AKP] Song Joong Ki's 3 million USD worth smartphone CF cancelled in China

Chinese smartphone company 'Vivo' will no longer be featuring Song Joong Ki in their advertisement.

Back in May, 'Vivo' chose Song Joong Ki as their new model following his hit drama 'Descendants of the Sun'. A contract worth 22 million CNÂ¥ (~$3.3 million USD) was signed between the Hallyu star and 'Vivo'; however, he will no longer be found in their ads.

Ongoing issues between China and South Korea surrounding THAAD seem to be the main reason for the sudden change in plans, but fortunately, Song Joong Ki will not suffer any financial losses, as 'Vivo' has agreed to still pay their model in full. 'Vivo', however, will be suffering from both financial and marketing losses.

Even though he will still get paid but most likely he won't become model for future commercials in China and same for other celebrities. tbh I expected the ban in China to happen sooner or later, I wonder how this will affect Kpop.

#LOL is this is related the upcoming ban, then, it is not showing promising results.

Like, the mentioned company will suffer lost meanwhile the korean actor will still get payed despite the ongoing problems. :imstupid:

well There are contracts so they have to find solutions about everything that is currently going on, the thing is that those korean celebrities most likely won't get new jobs/commercials/dramas etc. in China after that. That's when the ban will be real, for now they're applying it little by little...

it's a lesson to other chinese companies "don't have any business with korean artists in the future or you will suffer financial losses"

I've JUST seen 2 Song Joong Ki banners and 3 Song Joong Ki standees at 5 different places last night! And a couple others while I was on the taxi looking out. There are tons of vivo ads and stores around and I remember thinking how cool but annoying at the same time to see him everywhere in China.

What?

Maybe this is still new and the gazillion stores didn't take him down yet...

It'd take a long time to remove Song Joong Ki's face from China because China is huge and there are seriously TRILLIONS of vivo ads of his face EVERYWHERE.

If they are going to remove those huge posters and stuff, it's going to cause more traffic jam.
