-Amethyst- 1,883 Posted August 7, 2016 Share Posted August 7, 2016 the new generation of kpop is etablished since 2014 with the arrival of a lot of concepts : 2014 was pretty complete with diversified groups (my babies) the sexy matures ones Mamamoo the colourfoul girly ones Red Velvet and the innocent ones Lovelyz ! the fierce concept was also present with Sonamoo and their song "Deja Vu" ! I'm an huge fan of the "fierce concept" and his whole package ! and I'm even more fan when it's girl groups i love the stage presence , the dance , the charisma , the looks ! i love everything about these concept But I feel like in 2015 and 2016 the majors concept are the cute one and the girly one ! it's pretty heterogeneous so idk maybe the "fierce concept" is judged too ... too... i don't even know too what and look at the past generation : 4minute are disband and 2NE1 are in we don't even know how to call this ! hiatus maybe !? and minzy left ! (Look at these gold discographies) So in several angles it's clearly the "fierce concept" the most underappreciated by the kpop industry right now But in August we have BlackPink (I'm so readyyy) and IOI Sub-Unit (so ready too) so we will see ! They have some cute members, some more quirky members, some members who can be fierce, and some members who can be sexy. Twice can do it all. I like cute concepts, don't get me wrong, but the kpop market is oversaturated with it right now imo. I can even appreciate concepts like Red Velvet's Dumb Dumb and Ice Cream Cake because - even though they are girly and fun - they have something different going for them. I don't want to bash Twice and other girl groups at all because they play to a certain sect of kpop fans who dig that style, but its just not for me. Most kinda failed, but there was a ton of great songs^^ I'm looking forward to what will follow up BP if they have a successful debut. Right now a lot of group are into the cute trend because that's what has been selling well the past couple of years. I really need fierce to make a comeback. PS: People who like fierce, please look forward to Loen girls, with Janey and Park Soyeon, there is no way these girls won't debut with fierce! denizen 2,046 Posted August 7, 2016 Share Posted August 7, 2016 Its just unfortunate that in most circumstances, non big 3 companies can't sustain a girl group with a fierce image, their only viable options seem to be sexy or cute. Most don't even risk it (makes perfect business sense, think Source Music's last ditch investment produced GFriend) and the ones that do (Stardom-EvoL, TS Ent-Sonamoo, Starship-WJSN's Catch Me) reap little to no rewards. Its no wonder they stick to the tried and true/profitable concepts. I'm glad that companies that have the resources and fandom power to explore riskier territory actually do. Aside from BlackPink, Loen new girl group and Cube next girl group should follow that too. Yeah I know but on some thread with a list you posted a picture the OP was talking about cause no one could see it clearly and you got negged -21. Even though there was someone who posted the same picture before you and got 0 negs.
