I'm particularly partial to the slappers and jazz bassists: Victor Wooten Les Claypool Jaco Pastorius Stanley Clarke But John Entwistle could probably qualify as an overall top guitarist imo.... bass or otherwise and ofc, Hendrix is a cliche top choice... but cliches are such for a reason. For some strange reason I associate the guitar with Rock forgetting it's what makes blues so damn good. I'd like to add Eric Clapton (Though I only know a few songs but hey) The mention of Santana reminded me he exists. Okay, officially exhausted the names I know. I'll add Alex Skolnick (because I'm a thrash metal head at heart)...and because he can do it all from metal to rock to jazz, etc...Had the privilege to watch him play live and he was incredible. YouTube videos of him suck though...sorry. And the fact that he got together with Rodrigo y Gabriela...heck yeah! And...metal...because...metal...
