Should idols stop trying to achieve more than they can bear?

So why try to be a triple threat, when you're not even completely good at what you already do. I'm talking about all the idols who go into acting, when they're not the best of singers or rappers in their respective field. I know alot of actors were once idols and models like Hwang Jung Eum and So Ji Sub, who now excel in acting than they did they former occupation. And also have given up on the "triple threat" dream, but then there are the ones who for some reason are more ambitious than what they can bring to the table.

You start throwing shit and biscuits at Suzy. Just remember that Suzy stans basically know she's average in her acting, singing, pooping and twerking - a.k.a it's no fucking secret.

But we love her and that's all that matters.

I treat it as them taking on more responsibilities, challenges etc or even as some sort of promotion like us regular people doing our normal jobs

Example - office assistant → typist/clerk → secretary

Or

Washer/Cleaner → waitress → cashier → supervisor → manager

One would naturally take on more roles in respective given fields and not just do the same thing as the year went by

don't say to other people what they do.. they might be even more successful in life than you.. they won't need your advise... they say yoona should stop acting coz she aint good and her last 2 dramas got a bad rating... but look.. she never stop.. now she is popular in china coz of her chinese drama..  if snsd stopped after black ocean on 2008 and people called them talentless,.. they won't be the top girl group now.. just let other pursue their dream and focus on your own life..

They aren't the best singers or dancers so maybe they're in the group for their visual or charisma which would serve well in acting. Anyone that wants to should be able to try but I wish people would start out with some smaller roles first.

They should improve with the stuff they already got going on. And then reach to develop their strength in other fields. It makes little sense to jump rope between occupations.

That's assuming they can improve in singing/dancing. Singing at least requires some inborn talent and if you don't have the skill, no matter how hard you try, you won't get much better. And if you're never going to improve beyond mediocrity in one field, then it makes sense to switch to another instead of wasting your career on an area you'll never find a foothold in. Someone tone deaf with zero coordination (as long as they're passable in their own group) shouldn't be expected to dedicate their life becoming good at singing and dancing when they could be successful at something else.

I don't know who you're talking about when you say "trying to archive a triple threat", the idols who go into acting are generally the ones who realize they can't be a threat in other fields and try something new and different. There are exceptions, of course, but in most of the cases I don't really see what you're trying to say.

Singing doesn't require inborn talent, unless you're talking about vocal tone, which yes, is in-born, but vocal technique can always be trained and improved on. It's like learning a musical instrument. The vast majority of weak idol singers aren't tone deaf; they were just never trained to be any better because they weren't expected to be the main or lead vocalists. Plenty of them could become much better if they were interested to go and get the training that they need. Just look at Taemin, who was dismissed as having zero vocal talent at debut but ended up becoming part of the vocal line when he improved by leaps and bounds.

On the subject of the thread, I don't see anything wrong with them wanting to try new things. Maybe acting is their dream, maybe they want to challenge themselves, maybe they are just workaholics and like to have many projects under their belt. Let them do what they want to do in the end. I'm not going to begrudge them for not wanting to be the best singer or dancer if that's not what they want to do.

If people just stick in their comfort zone, they will not be able to grow, when you are young, you should have the courage to face challenges, look around the world, not hide in one small place and only hone what you are good at, you should explore yourself and see your capacity. I know this wont be a good example, but snsd became this big is largely because they explore more sides of their music and concepts, if they just stick with the cute concept after gee, i dont think they will become one of the representatives for korea culture.

It makes sense why some idols want to branch out especially (but not limited to) the ones not talented in singing/dancing.

But that'd better come later in their career. They should never forget why they chose to debut as an idol and why a group exists in the first place. Even if they can't become the best, they should still dedicate some of their time to practise and not become the group's dead-weight.

Detest idols like kris, aka rookie idols who ditch the group and step on teammates in order to "follow their dreams".
