SNSD outsales Britney for first week: Britney's decline? SNSD coming back up?

Britney Jean, the eighth studio album of American superstar and pop icon, Britney Spears, had the worst opening week of her career. Selling only 107,000 copies, it debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 album chart, losing out to #1 Garth Brooks (debut), #2 One Direction (drop), and #3 Kelly Clarkson (rise).

Music fans point out the fact that Britney Jean had little promotion, contributing to the low first week sales. Other would point out that pop culture phenomenon Beyonce released her visual album with absolutely no promotion or warning and managed to sell a staggering 828,773 albums since its release on Thursday at midnight, making it the fastest-selling record in iTunes history.

On the other side of the globe, Hallyu leader and K-pop queens, Girls' Generation released their third Japanese studio album, Love & Peace. Previously released singles Love&Girls and Galaxy Supernova peaked on the Oricon chart at #4 and #3, respectively. The album, released digitally on December 10 and physically the following day, had a first week sales of over 129,000. Girls' Generation topped the Oricon Weekly album chart for the second time, a feat that even KARA has not achieved.

Although not selling as much as their first Japanese album, which snibbled 232,000 copies in it's first week, it's an improvement from the Girls & Peace, the second Japanese album, despite the second album's previously released singles having better performance. Girls & Peace also failed to top the Oricon weekly album chart, which Love & Peace has managed to do.

Looking at the info, it seems like Britney has lost that star impact she once had. She hasn't been able to re-grab the love of the current generation of young listeners, while Beyonce has been able to sway music fans of all ages. She seems to not be too bothered about being on the top. Do you think she'll hang it up after Britney Jean? Or do you think she'll give it another swing, attempting to make a bigger impact on the charts? Perhaps she will continue promotions, snag better numbers, and rise to number one?

Girls' Generation had a fantastic Japanese debut and has been able to keep with and even, at times, top other popular Korean girl group, KARA, with their Japanese activities. Although their momentum has dropped significantly in Japan, it seems they may still have quite a bit of fight in them, seeing their latest album doing better than the previous, even with lackluster singles. Do you think they're coming back up in Japan? Will they be able to top their achievements with the First Japan Album?

TL:DR

Britney - 107,000

SNSD - 129,000

Britney has worst first week sales, losing her impact. SNSD does better than 2nd album but not 1st, Japan warming back up to SNSD.

DISCLAIMER: The title was made only to get people to read the thread lol. My intentions aren't really to directly compare Britney Spears and SNSD, but to look at two different album releases and the results of them.

It's about time SNSD resort to gimmicks. There's nothing wrong there. Who cares? Sales are sales. At the end of the day, SNSD is making lots of money.

I'm actually happy as a fan that they actually took some time to promote it this way. The 2nd album barely had any promotions. Even their concert is restricted to those part of the official paying Sone fanclub when everyone else's is open to the public.

Also it's sad how certain people actually think dmn = entire Sone fandom. Attacking just because of one person really? Welp!

Had Gimmicks' Generation not resorted to something almost similar to AKB48's blowjob events, they would have sold less than 70k.

They're not improving really. They had a free concert at Yokohama Arena to boost sales, a free concert at Universal Studios, and bundled tickets/album for their tour next year.

Also just a little note, you guys can't really say anything about dmn when you guys are ALWAYS posting in Kpop threads about Japanese sales. Majority of the time it's not positive, so why should dmn be banned from Japanese section or leave when you guys are doing the exact same thing?

This is in the Korean Music section, yet that didn't stop you guys. Why should the Japanese section stop dmn then?

It's about Japanese sales so it's relevant to me. I'm not talking about Korean sales, doll...

They didn't even do handshakes though...

Which is why I said "almost similar". I'd equate it more to a webcam strip show.

There's nothing wrong in the eyes of Sones because it boosts their sales.

It takes away the whole ~true artist~ / ~Korean luxury product~ aura they had.

Tbh, you're always one of the first people to ever comment in anything regarding SNSD and their sales so you coming here is already expected.

Anyways, like I said, it's a good thing that they actually did something to promote their album. It's about time. They barely promoted their stuff post-Paparazzi.

Umm, no... This one piqued my interest because the idea of them making a comeback isn't something to be taken seriously.

I feel as if a lot of the KPop fans are uninformed about Japanese things so out of kindness I inform them about the truth. Or would you rather everyone walk around in ignorance?

I don't see how one affects the other, but ok lol.

I agree, I really don't care if they use gimmick or not tbh. Sales are sales and they deserve the money they get from it.

The main reason it's being pointed out so much, it's because a certain SONE kept calling out all other K-Pop and J-Pop groups that used gimmicks, but now it's apparently fine.
