Is promoting or publically hyping up a group before debut a better stunt than survival shows to build up a fanbase for a newcoming group?

Some companies choose to go about it in the traditional way by creating teaser videos or pictorials for groups, while the newly used concept of survival shows has also been a great publicity stunt.

But is the raw yet realistic image of how a group is made through survival shows something to have the best outcome in comparison to already formed groups that are hyped otherwise?

I think publicly hyping up a group can only be done by a big 3 company(best example would be NCT and Black pink). Survival shows on the other hand could be beneficial for both small and big companies, because the people can see what kind of members are going to debut and root for their faves. So a survival show would be the better option imo.

Most people nowadays are attracted to personalities and visuals more over than talent (Unless you're god Sejeong, who have all 3) So having a survival show lets the public know more about the group itself/ the girls itself, plus they can choose which girls go into the group based on votes.

However there's this aspect in pictorials that you don't get from survival shows and it's the mystery factor. Like, how good is this girl/boy, and what can she/he show me....so it pulls some interest, because they're curious about the group.

Either way works because, I got into Twice because of Sixteen. I got into Red Velvet in pictorials and SMRookies teasers, and I'm interested in BlackPink because not only do they have a unique concept,(Not really, but a concept that strays from the rookie groups today) but also because of what I saw in their dance practice video. It gave me a good impression on how the group could be.

I'm sorry, but the size and font you're using is so ugly

I can't concentrate on whatever you're writing

but it's the typical times new roman ft you have to use in school, you have to read papers using this font all the time in school lol

I'll change it.

To answer your question I don't really know. I think if you are a bigger company or it's a survival show involving the merging of different companies it might gain more attraction, but people might get sick of survival shows after a while. It's good question.

Was it comic sans ?

That's exactly it. People tend to move on to the next "new" thing so maybe a combination of both would make up for it in the long run.

LOL yeah I had comic sans on, I won't change it again though, since I sort of like it at the moment.

It depends on what companies the idols are from. I don't see the buzz around non-Big 3's survival shows but I see people hyping Sixteen and WIN.

Mnet is a pretty big deal, too so they attract lots of people.

I'm glad SM doesn't have a survival show though. The battle to debut within the trainees is already cut-throat enough. No need for more pressure.

Depends really. Survival shoes are good to build up a fan base before the group debuts and you get to know the members. While hyping up groups is something I think big three companies can do . However they always run the risk of the group not meeting the expectations of the public. Constant comparisons to their senior groups can also lead to fanwars and just annoying overall(see yg for that)

i don't think it matters which direction a company choose but more so what company it is, like comparing yg's survival shows to fnc's there was more buzz about yg's (who is one of the big 3) then fnc's.

Your answer: Twice.

Long answer: Survival shows only work for the big3 because viewers trust that those in the show have some redeemable qualities that landed them in their positions. You can't disregard the power of the Big3 when they've remained the Big3 for 10 years. Survival shows DO NOT work for those outside the big 3, because shows require investment by the viewer and when you're given a choice to watch trainees from SM or trainees from Source Music, chances are you'll check out SM's first before you even consider the other one by Source Music.

Let Compare Sixteen and Produce101

the importthing about make a show like sixteen before debut a new group:

1. the show must can explain to audience about a group concept they want debut

in Sixteen, member must did any activities like photoshoot, promo theirself at 3 differen place...

in Produce101, too much drama & monoton activities....

2  the show must can show every member charm, talent, personality & especially their hardwork (when they training) ha

in sixteen, every member have their part for screentime...

in produce101, unfair screentime.... how can vote someone who's never get screentime

3. the show must not based on 100% vote.... because agency must debut their own group...

in sixteen, only tzuyu picked because online vote...

in produce101,meanwhile this show 100% vote.... not good especially agency cant pick person who suit for their new group concept.

4. they must put education to be a idol in that show and critize if there have something wrong...

in sixteen, many member get critice and education in many activities like photoshoot sesion

in produce101, they just focus in dance , sing & rap....

that 4 point why sixteen to be success show..... but mnet make messy thing with produce101 with their evil editing, unfair screentime and put many drama

Lol this rant seems to be misplaced. Also your points fall flat when P101 eventually became bigger than Sixteen.
