Apparently it was some random thugs, who shot up a club filled with young teens, because you know....thug life.

I fear we are the copycat crime era of mass shootings. There are people out there who are getting inspired by mass shootings instead of getting terrified by them. As individuals, they have always had problems with their lives and themselves even if those problems were invisible to other people, after all mental health is very poorly understood, but now they are finding these crimes as a form of resolve. The media perpetuates this by talking a lot about these crimes. This is bad.

That's what we get for treating massacres and shootings as the hottest new episode of reality TV. You get a disillusioned, socially-inept, maybe bullied kid who thinks he's been born in the wrong situation and that he's destined to great things (and there's a fuckton of those). You show how much mass murderers impact pop culture and how much recognition they get (Omar Maaten's name won't be forgotten anytime soon yet the majority of citizens ain't even know who their state senator is or even who the fuck's John Kerry), and there : perfect recipe for a disaster.
