Hello there. 

 

I've been lurking in this thread for a while now and I just wanted to thank and congratulate its active members! Thank you for creating such a "safe" and fun space for Seohyun fans. I've been into kpop for around 9 years now and, as a member here nicely put it, I'm a fan who outgrew the group (and the k-pop sphere in general, to be honest - so much negativity), but still care a lot about Seohyun. And how incredible it has been to witness her transformation from the adorably shy and awkward teenage girl I first met to this brilliant, thriving lady! And how nice it is to see her fan community thrive too!

So thank you for this fun thread      

 

I'm looking forward to her next project, she'll probably find a way to surprise us yet again. Seeing her recent injuries worries me, but at the same time I'm in admiration at how dedicated she is. 

 

Anyways, when it comes to ethereal queen Seohyun (yeah, that's what I call her, mushy i know), we know the best is always yet to come.

About a T.T.S comeback... I have very mixed feelings; I'd rather she continue her solo activities, honestly, but if it is bound to happen, here is what I'd wish for their comeback:

 

- a proper title song that showcases their vocal skills without being boring or bland (so unlike the disaster that was Holler, but not a la Twinkle either, the straining was sometimes too much live).

- the inclusion of one of Seohyun's self-composed track (though this might be wishful thinking, it's still more likely to happen within the subunit than the main group)

- PROPER STYLING. The classy route pleeease. They all looked so tacky during the previous comebacks. I personally think Seohyun shines best when dressed simply but elegantly. 

 

All in all, I hope for something more challenging and well-thought.

All of TTS have said they want to do unplugged/acoustic style performances (like Cater 2 U) so why can't we get something like that? A slow or mid-tempo song with great harmonies or groove?

Omg yes, something like their "Cater 2 U" would be so great. Didn't "Whisper" originally get good results too?

I used to think she was especially popular with fanboys and ajhummas, but it seems like her fandom is not only growing but diversifying as well.

Not really feeling the blonde hair badge since it's been a while since she last had it, same with LH pictures - I'd personally prefer something more timeless I guess ??? The JMO picture with her side profile is flawless too (HER SIDE PROFILE PEOPLE, IT'S SO FLAWLESS), too bad it won't be allowed then.

Just a long, rambling rant about some frustrations I have as a fan...

 

 

Being a Seohyun fan is so frustrating. Every time I think she'll finally have her own big project like the other members, I just end up being discouraged in the end. You guys always say to be patient but I'm tired of waiting. There are already rookie idols getting leads in dramas, meanwhile Seohyun's about to be in her 10th year and what does she have? Cameos and supporting roles? She's put into the same projects as her juniors and they get more out of it than her; she should have been getting parts back in 2011 but instead she only debuted in 2013 and ever since then, all she's had are a few cameos and supporting roles.

 

You guys always talk about her finally getting her own solo debut but are we even sure that's gonna happen anytime soon? Yesung debuted in 2005 and he only got his debut this year, what if it's the same for Seohyun? For all we know Tiffany could release her 2nd mini-album and another member (or two) could debut before we even hear news of Seohyun getting a solo. I honestly don't think I can wait any longer. Sometimes I look at other fans and get envious because all their biases constantly have a new project and I'm always stuck waiting for something new from Seohyun. The only time I ever get to see her extensively are during SNSD and TTS comebacks, and they're not even promoting as a group as much as they used to. As a K-pop fan I've spent my time basically talking about what Seohyun wore at the airport today, how she looked at the premiere of X movie, and reading an article about her once in a while that's been translated. There's nothing I have to look forward to, and every time I think there is, it just ends up being a bust.

 

She doesn't even get variety show appearances. I mean what am I even getting out of it as a fan when there's nothing for me? No dramas, no music, no varieties. The only thing she gets are musicals and it's not like I'm in Korea, I'm not gonna be able to watch them. Sometimes I feel like I'm losing out whenever I see other fans with biases who are constantly active and promoting, and I get bored waiting for something that I'm not even sure is coming. Like, she can't even get a Station solo? Are you kidding me? I hate SM, they've held her back for so long and instead of having her "maknae" image helping her, all it's done is serve as an obstacle in her career. Will she be known as "SNSD's maknae Seohyun" forever? Her one calling outside of being an SNSD member is musicals and SM doesn't even support her or promote her activities. She has to fight with her own company to get whatever projects she wants (which is ridiculous because they should be the ones helping her, not holding her back) and still she gets snide comments from netizens and I-fans alike, talking about crap they know nothing about, like how SM helped her in getting her role for Mamma Mia when she actually had to work hard to get it all on her own because God knows SM isn't there for her.

 

Sunny is about to debut in her first drama and her first role already sounds bigger than anything Seohyun has ever gotten. If Seohyun doesn't renew her contract next year I wouldn't blame her. SM has done nothing for her, and now that I think about it, her situation reminds me of how YG treated Minzy (except Minzy's was even worse because 2NE1 didn't even get that many comebacks). The only thing I can think of though, are how Sones would react. There's no doubt in my mind that many of her "casual fans" would turn their back on her for "betraying" the group and leaving. It would honestly make me laugh because I don't think they realize how valuable Seohyun is to the group. Without her, the group would have to be carried by Taeyeon and it would officially be the "Taeny show" that people have been complaining about for some time now. If she doesn't renew I hope SM realizes the talent they lost out on.

 

 

 

Not gonna lie, I think about this very often too. I think it hit me the most when her Pantene solo deal turned out to be a package including Y*ri too. As petty as it sounds, why can't we ever have nice things on our own? Why won't they let Seohyun shine on her own?

 

Sometimes I just wish she'd leave SM and join a company who actually gives her the opportunities to shine, where she finally has the freedom to try and do whatever she wants. I've been following her since her debut and I just can't at SM stopping her from growing. This is partly why I stepped away from the group and kpop in general. Yes, I am bitter and disappointed.

It seems unlikely though: would she be willing to give up the 'S*N*S*D brand' and to go through the hate of s*nes? Which, by the way, would be kinda ironic: I like the group as a whole, I really do, but let's be real when it comes to most of its fans: most of them care little about Seohyun, only reducing her as the eternally shy and awkward maknae, Seobot or whatnot... How many have ever been truly supportive of Seohyun, apart from using her name when it comes in handy to brag about the group or the company, or to bash another member? But I digress; again, I am bitter.

 

The year isn't over, I still have hope. But no matter what, I want to support Seohyun <3

^^^^ YES TO ALL OF THIS.

I still remember reading in a thread (from a supposedly big stan of the group, mind you) that the group wouldn't lose much without Seohyun. How can people expect us not to be vocal about our dissatisfaction when even members of her own group fandom undermine her presence and take her for granted? Yes, the support between the girls has always been unequal, but the hypocrisy is too much at this point.

 

Tbh I just want her to have whatever she wants, be it to thrive in the group or/and to get numerous solo opportunities. But at times, it just feels like she has neither of that.

This is very true. Although at times, remaining positive is harder than usual, I do want to stay hopeful. I guess I'm just not as patient as Seohyun lol

I just finished my exams and I'm back just in time to witness this nonsense again. These stans disgust me - trash, trash, trash. Seohyun deserves so much better.

 

I usually stay away from social media but oh well, I have time now: I'm creating a twitter and an instagram account just for Seohyun <3 (but would a kind soul be willing to explain to me how they work?). LET'S KEEP ON SHOWERING HER WITH LOVE AND SUPPORT.

I keep seeing Sone say "if Y*ri's album comes out first Seohyun stans will complain". Can they be quiet? We've already known since long ago she will get a solo first, and we already know we will have to wait for Seohyun. It's like they want us to act up so they can turn around like "aha! you uglies".  

From what I get from twitter (what an ugly world I've just discovered haha, some kpop fans on twitter are quite something......), what we will say or how we will react matters little. Many of these 'fans' will complain about us no matter what, for the sole fact that we are now voicing our opinions. After all, aren't Seomates supposed to be invisible, just like Seohyun? How dare we  make ourselves noticed?

Oh, thank you!!! I used to do a lot of edits in high school but because of uni I haven't been able to practice anymore. I guess Seohyun really is my muse because for the first time in a while, I made a bunch just for her birthday lol 

 

 

As for now I only have a private tumblr (where I only post and reblog garbage lol) but I was thinking of creating a tumblr specifically for Seohyun. I'll keep you updated  !!

Hello fellow seomates  !! I haven't been able to come here due to personal problems but I'm baaack (at an untimely hour. i swear i don't sleep haha)

 

For Seohyun's birthday, I thought of what I could do and I decided to post a series of edits called "Get to know Seohyun" on tumblr (maybe on twitter too if I figure out how to post stuff...). I've just created the blog so I still need to organize it a bit hehe

Is anyone still willing to manage a Seohyun news blog? Because this one could become one, but I need volunteers to update the page quickly and regularly (a titan of a job)

Fuck man, I hope this careless flag scandal doesn't get in the way of Seohyun's efforts for her solo album or how her dramas are received. The hate for SNSD in Korea is so strong right now I can't even explain to you. Not just Tiff, but all the members are getting called out for everything and they're being called an "expired group". Seohyun's never DONE anything but I'm sure they will find something to use against her too. It's serious this time. Rising flag scandals almost never go away and this is 100 times worse because it's on INDEPENDENCE DAY. I know Tiff didn't mean harm but god, after so many mishaps with flags on SNS in the past, she should've learned. Netizens say all the time to be careful and spare about SNS. She was a scandal waiting to happen. 

 

I can't stand to think Seohyun's worked so hard and finally finally finally gets something of her own, her own time to shine, to potentially have it compromised over something so stupid. 

I knew the backlash would be huge, but to this extent???? Will it really badly affect members with relatively spotless reputations like Y--nA and Seohyun, who in addition have on numerous occasions shown patriotic gestures ? Or will it be another case of "I pity them for being in the same group as xx"? (not that this would be a good thing either, I'm just thinking practical). In any case I'm upset because whatever activities the girls will have, the attention will now be focused on this scandal. 

 

Btw hi guys. I don't post often because I've been quite busy but I check out the thread from time to time. Didn't expect to come back on this site during such an explosive time.

 

If someone could please please reassure me, I'm freaking out a bit because I need to know Seo will be alright. How to handle this rationally???

It's pretty bad at the moment but I hope it's because right now everything's still in the heat of the scandal and people are just being ridiculous as they usually are. That said, AOA suffered a similar setback awhile ago and it hasn't been looking good for them. Although it was only 1-2 members involved, the whole group gets shamed and ridiculed now. I'd even say their offense wasn't as offensive as this one (being asked to delete a Japanese flag and then turning around to post a confederate one - complete yikes). SNSD is of course a lot bigger and stronger, and Seohyun does have a pretty spotless reputation and good favor in general but it's not like netizens haven't lashed out at her before too for no reason. All in all there's nothing we can do except wait and hope for the best because any noise or activity from members in the next few weeks is just gonna invite messy commentary and reactions. It's really a pretty helpless situation. But I trust all of them will recover in time, just not right away. If SM goes through with her rumored solo date, it's pretty soon so I hope all goes well. I know she's strong but I can't help but feel irked especially because she of all people cares so much about history and patriotism. 

 

Well, we shall know when there will be any news about Seohyun activity. Now, on her instagram there is only a few comments that metions the scandal, but not that many. But numbers of upovotes on articles are really big. As I already said in some other post - I think it'll be a witch hunt for Tiff*ny. We just need to wait and see...

Imo it's not that bad. I read the article and indeed, they're mostly complaining about acting-dols in general. Seohyun delivered: she improved drastically since Passionate Lovers and her sageuk accent is okay (though I had no doubt; girl has been teased nonstop because of her outdated way of talking haha). I'm really proud to be her fan because she always strives to do better and it shows.

 

About the comments on her looks, meh. They can't destroy her like they did with Baekhyun and IU so they have to resort to this. Plus she was smart by taking on a small role. SooYoung and UEE are decent and even good, and they still get flack because of this so called "lacking looks". No wonder why a significant part of the acting industry is average at best, and oftentimes mediocre - horrible actors get away with it thanks to their looks and the marketing around it.

 

Moon Lovers is no exception though. Honestly, I tried to watch it but it's such a borefest imo, my irrational love for Seohyun will be the only thing pushing me to keep on watching it (KNIVES DANCE KNIVES DANCE KNIVES DANCE). Sure, the scenery is beautiful but I have really come to think that's where all the huge budget went to. The editing, pacing and half the cast are messy. Sure, now it's mostly bandwagon hate, but the first episodes were especially of poor quality and you don't get a second chance when it comes to first impressions - the most important thing I guess.

 

So all in all, I hope this will be the last time Seohyun lets SM choose something for her (even though her character is cool, I understand why she loved it). Yes, it's more exposure (esp in China), more popularity and whatnot, but I like to think that more than just an actress, she wants to be a great one. For this to happen, she needs to get involved in better projects, not necessarily with a lot of hype. Just good, well directed and well written projects that don't just cater to the fans like SIMAAF and Moon Lovers. Maybe she could even try an indie movie, idk. I'm just praying for another Introduction to Architecture or Train for Busan that SM doesn't fuck up, because yes, I am forever bitter :'D
