Are Marvel Comics screwing up, just a tiny bit?

What are Marvel Comics doing, exactly?

First Captain America is a double agent for SHIELD and HYDRA.

Then Iron Man is replaced (he 'retires', apparently) by a 15 year old black girl. I have no problem whatsoever with the fact she's black, just Iron Man, not teenager or woman (not being sexist, it's just Iron Man has always been written as a man and I don't know how it would work with a female instead) and Tony Stark wouldn't retire, he's too stubborn.

And then Bruce Banner/Hulk is killed by Hawkeye.

Marvel Comics, WTF?

Iron Man is just a title, it doesn't matter that it says man anyone can take up the mantle.

The CA thing has already been explained as *spoiler*  Red Skull or whoever doing some shit to rewrite Captain America's history, so it's not a permanent change.

Hulk will come back eventually.

These aren't even the craziest things that Marvel has done in the comics before and none of it is likely to be permanent. Shit in comics never is.

I like that a black girl is replacing Tony as one of Marvel's biggest characters. Isn't Thor a woman now as well? But idk about Bruce's death. If it's only for shock value, then it's useless, but if they have a plan on how exactly that's going to affect the other characters and if adds a great deal to their story, then maybe, in the long-term, it was smart of them to make this decision.

I love that people are trying to promote diversity but idk why so many people are trying to replace old classic characters with people that work better to encourage a social agenda? It's probably a business tactic on it's own but It bugs me cause what's wrong with the characters saying the same as we remember them? I would think that creating a new and awesome creation would be a more likable and much better way to promote inclusion? Or is that just me?

I'll probably love her if she ends up being a badass but I would've liked to see new superheros with their own cool characteristics too ;-;

I think they start them off by taking the mantle of legacy characters to bring attention to them right off the bat instead of building them up from nothing as an original character. It would be great if they started them off as new characters but I don't see them doing that out of sheer laziness.

This is a women in a suit

this is a man in a suit

I don't mind another character taking the place of another person in a suit. However if the character was a male in a male suit.....put someone with a dick in thier because people knew there was a man, hence the Iron Man. If its going to be a women, fine but it still kinda weird.

Hawkeye ain't killing hulk, that is pure fiction.

True. I just feel like it'd be better if there were characters who we remembered as a diverse person of it's own then just building on other ones. Or maybe at least do it in the "Legend of Korra" style if they don't care enough to build a whole universe for them. Let's see though, maybe Marvel will end up making her a great and memorable hero on her own.

I think that Marvel is replacing beloved characters because they need to push their social agenda by using popular money-making characters. If they were to create new characters, it's very likely that readers wouldn't give it the time of day. It's not a secret that strong female characters usually have a smaller audience/fanbase. Yes, there are exceptions like Wonder Woman or She-Hulk, but it's few and far between. I personally find it annoying, but I get it.

The problem with developing new stories is that you have to get a (relatively) new team to come up with a storyline, characters, everything that involves creating a comic for something that could very well not sell because comic book readers--especially those loyal to marvel--wouldn't bother reading it. Riri is most likely going to be a temporary character before being replaced with someone else over time; if she gets good reception from the public, she'll stick around, maybe even get her own series outside of Iron Man with a new set of characters more than likely.

The company knows what they're doing and have survived so long because they've taken risks. The MCU was already a clusterfuck that took a lot to understand, so a few more things thrown into what they're already doing won't hurt it. It's better for them to do it this way than have to build up a reputation for more diverse characters from scratch.

Hmm let's see how this pans out I guess then.

sidekicks taking their mentors mantle isnt smething new but i dont feel like they have built up iron mans successor enough.

for example alot of fans acknowledges dick grayson or even damine wayne as batmans successor if bruce wayne dies cause its been built up and hinted over the decades.

and dick grayson took the batman mantle when everyone thought bruce died and fans were happy about it.

thought from what i know there arent alot of side kicks with marvel heros. maybe if they introduced that girl as tonys side kick and build her up more over a few years people will be more warm to the idea,.
