[in this] ordinary world of dust, the sentimentally attached bird finds its perch in the remotest corner of the earth.
Listening to the tears [fall] from the other side of the river, the misty rain is worrisome for the gathered flowers.
When the moon is full, the remaining lamps resemble fire.
It is hard for people to meet. In this quiet stillness, there is no trace of their whereabouts.

Feelings and circumstances change. It is hard [for] beauty [to remain untouched].
Gazing at the flowers, during the reluctant parting, not all words have been said.
A shadow [projected] against a cold window, a light dance [to the tune of] a jade zither,
[The player plucks] the strings [for her]self to hear. The lonely person is apprehensive.

Enlighten [me], people of this world, who is in charge of the worries that farewells cause? [Let me] deposit a thousand tears of yearning.
Having nothing for company but dreams, in this moment, your heart is thinking of whom?
If clouds easily disperse, from either end of the magpie bridge[1], [we] gaze anxiously until [our] eyes become strained.
Since [our] parting, the time [we spent separated by] the mist-covered waters has gone to waste.

T/N:

[1] The magpie bridge is a reference to the story of the weaver girl (the constellation Vega) and the cowherd (the constellation Altair), whose love was forbidden and were thus banished to either side of the "silver river" (the Milky Way). Each year for one day, a flock of magpies form a bridge over the river such that the lovers may reunite.
