Background info on this: Last night, a bunch of articles came out about 30 female top stars being involved in prostitution. Simultaneously, articles about another issue (the president pushing for the privatization of railroads, which would hike up the prices of train tickets astronomically) were mysteriously taken down.

Some netizens began to notice this so when people were searching for the names of the alleged female stars, they started planting the initials 'M Y H' in the comments, saying she was one of the stars. Then netizens went further and claimed it was a star named Min Young Hwa, which led to the name being the most searched keyword on portal sites.

The sneaky part about it is that Min Young Hwa is not the name of an actual star, but rather the word for 'privatization', so netizens were able to redirect the attention from the scandal back to the privatization issue. Whether it's really a conspiracy.. who knows, but it was a cool move on the netizens' part since it brought attention to a more important issue anyway.

Article: Top star A suspected for prostitution... "30 other celebrities suspected"

Source: Kuki News via Nate [2]

1. [+1,328, -51] These stars never end up being top stars when you find their identities.

2. [+1,497, -461] What issue is the government trying to cover now that they have to pull out the number 30...

3. [+893, -35] Who??? I hope they reveal the names so that innocent stars don't get harmed.

4. [+168, -47] You can release scandals like this all you want, you cannot privatize the railroads

5. [+113, -38] I heard it was Min Young Hwa-ssi

6. [+1,188, -296] The married top star A-B = Min Young Hwa

7. [+1,152, -264] Media outlet, now that Ilbe articles aren't getting you anywhere, you're trying to bury the privatization issue with celebrity gossip? So pathetic. I oppose the privatization of railroads.

Article: Reps of the actress under suspicion for prostitution "She's had problems in the past"

Source; Newsen via Nate

1. [+2,867, -677] I think we elected the wrong president

2. [+2,242, -393] Are they still taking Koreans for idiots? Doing all this just to bury the privatization issue. Politicians disgust me.

3. [+1,977, -327] Say it loud and confidently. Min Young Hwa is the name of the actress.

Instiz: 'M Y H' are the confirmed initials of the prostitution celebrity

A post summarizing the whole Min Young Hwa/privatization stint pulled by netizens.

"Wow, those netizens were really smart to think of this. People are finally taking notice of the issue."

"That netizen deserves an award... That was a really smart move."

"It was a good idea to plant the initials like that but it's sad that they had to reach such a point in order to get people to notice the issue."

"Sad that we have to stoop this low for issues like this to receive attention ã… ã… "

"Sad that people are more interested in celebrity gossip than government issues."

"I searched up Min Young Hwa too when I first heard the name and ended up educating myself..."

How can people allow themselves to be so caught up in petty issues where there are REAL issues that they need to worry about? Celebrity issues really dont matter to anyone but that celebrity and their company, while issues of national importance make a real difference in YOUR life, random netizen. Wake up and realize what things actually matter in your life and what doesnt, and maybe you can stop getting duped.

But what if those women are not doing of their own freewill and being force too?

Good job seriously

And if the scandal is real and not some fake cover up, just keep their names a secret and let the law deal with it privately because these girls can be shame to the point of depression or worst by society.

Then that changes from simply an issue about gossip to a issue about possible criminal, but it still should not overshadow something so large as the privatization of the railroads. Things need to be put into the proper perspective.

So Korean are to stupid to handle a scandal and politics at the same time?

I don't think they put out these kinds of articles to get the majority of netizens to pay attention but more so that few of them, especially young girls/guys, when the stories revolve around their bias, search it and bring it up in the rankings and the political ones would naturally go down or in this case, deleted.

This time though, it didn't really work since people still talked about it but had a scandal surrounding a big celebrity occurred, who knows if it would of had the same result.
