  1. 1. Is it a good move to keep the same signature sound?

    • Yes, they have been successful so far so why not?

So a lot of people are complaining that Gfriend's title tracks have a similar sound, so I though I'd share my opinion on why SourceMusic does this.

Okay so first of all we all know that Gfriend is SourceMusic's only well known artist and thanks to Gfriend they are enjoying some new found success.

Keep in mind that SourceMusic isn't on YG, JYP, SM, Cube etc level so they can't really afford to take risks at or experiment at this point.

Gfriend have had 3 successful titles tracks prior to Navillera therefore they want to continue with a similar sounding title track to continue Gfriend run of hits.

I mean, why would you want to experiment when you already have the winning formula? The public enjoys their signature sounding tracks and it suits the members.

With that being said their latest album LOL has some very exciting tracks that show Gfriend stepping out of their comfort zone and trying something new like; Distance, Gone With The Wind, Compas and  Sunshine.

That might be a sign that they are willing try something different for their next comeback.

To put it in a nutshell, SourceMusic doesn't have a big enough reputation nor is financially at the level yet where they can totally change Gfriend's concept and risk losing fans or sales.

Entertainment companies are businesses at the end of the day.

In my opinion the songs don't even sound that similar but there are parts in the songs that resemble one another so I can understand why some people would say that. They may sound a little similar but not the same.

Personally I think they each of their comebacks give off a different vibe:

Glass Bead - Fresh / Hope

Me Gustas Tu - Happy / Summer

Rough - Sad / Winter

Navillera - Upbeat / Exciting

Let'a be honest , the only one experimenting is SM , YG and JYP keep their signature style for their group

Sm never really care about digital chart. And doesn't bother to keep their success recipe.

They care about selling album

Not blaming gfriend for singing similar song , apink have 6 years career yet most of their song have a similar vibe

i got the same vibe from me gustas tu and glass bead but rough/ navillera are different with those two,and rough also sounds more emo than navillera

even tho me gustas tu and glass bead gives same vibes to me, i dont rly mind cus they were starting to get popular back then so they need to release same kind of song, and start smth diff when theyre stable alr (imo)

It is true that they resemble each another but all of them are bop tho

I don't think there's anything wrong with having a series of similiar sounds though. APink (just a group that came off the top of my mind) had similar sounds with variations at first too, expending their varieties and concepts gradually. There's no need to force yourself to try something new or keep asking for something new every time. Gfriend is still a rookie, they will eventually try new stuff in the future.

Also, signature sounds are call signature sounds for a reason...?

why are you guys saying that those who find the song similar to each other are lying or haters???

this is not a matter of opinion objectively speaking the songs do sound a alike

they have the same key same chord progression similar melody line

its not by chance that when you listen to Navillera you feel tempted to sing the other songs, the musical construction it's just too simular

most people don't understand much about music production or even listen to it closely to notice the similarities, the problem is the melody that is also similar, which is the thing that common people listen to in a song, and memorize

like I'm not a gfriend hater, but facts remain facts, the company should change stuff a lil bit, but the 3 songs are good regardless

It is natural thing actually. Most KPop groups stay to their winning formula after they found it. Sistar with their prolific summer comebacks, AOA with their sexy fresh concept, APink with their innocent vibe, and the latest one is EXID who have stayed to their own winning formula. About the same sound thing, I think people cannot differentiate between the same vibe with same sound.

It's a good thing that their songs and videos have a consistent look and image.  They are building a brand.

One of the problems Red Velvet (despite their superior talent) has had getting traction is that SM completely changes their look and sound with each release.

That's Gfriend's signature sound and there's nothing wrong with a group having a signature sound.

I'm not a fan of most of Gfriend's music but Rough and Navillera were pretty good, if their next comeback is this good I might even check their albums.

The chord progression is different. But they're using same instrument. And saying they're sounds same just like saying a band always produce same song or "All Mozart's songs are sounds same!".

Public will  pretty soon tire of the same concept in different packaging. The girls are bringing in good money now and they have a favorable image with the public, their company should use this and experiment different style for their future comebacks. They pulled off the Twice song pretty well so I can see them pulling off different concepts with ease.

Their songs are good but yeah, all of them sounds similar not that much though but that's not unexpected because they keep using the same producers and every producer have a certain sound in all their songs (JYP for example).

Maybe if they don't want to risk much they can try doing double title tracks in the future. Something who are more their current style, and something Source Music wants to try to see how the public takes it.

than what's the chord progression of NAVILLERA? sometimes I make mistakes with my ear so correct me if I'm wrong but for me it sounds like vi-v-iv-i

which is the same as rough

maybe the keys are not the same tho, maybe Navillera is in C instead of G like rough

but anyways that doesn't change the fact that the melody is similar, which is the strongest most recognizable thing in a song

also your comparison with Mozart doesn't make any sense, again his melodies are not that similar to each other , they are very distinguishable actually
