zhÇ zhÄ« dÄng shí zhèng qÄ«ng chÅ«n nián shào

[After] a night of wind and rain, how much love falls down?
only know that at the time, [we] were young of age and right in the middle of [our] youth.

You glanced back with a smile,
[And my] heart was already on cloud nine.
Not caring about [my own] future prospects, only caring about you—
How beautifully charming [you were]!

Whether sober or drunk,
Where is [our] mutual love?
An age of prosperity is accompanied by instability.

Whether joyous or furious,
[Dressed in] red robes, [a spot of] cinnabar [between the brows], [we throw] a banquet that runs the length of a street.
Bowing in salute to a lifetime, [we] converse for the entire night.

All the turmoils [in this world] are the clamoring cries of the red dust[1].
Within dreams and without, the bright moon is always shining upon [everything].

Watching over you till the flowers bloom,
Keeping you company [beneath] the light of sunset.
A story of praise inebriates this moment.

T/N:

[1] 红尘 (lit. red dust) is a metaphor for the ordinary world of mankind. When horses and carriages passed over the unpaved earthen roads in the olden days, dust would rise. These 'roads' represented the figurative roads to fame and fortune that the common man pursues.
