    • I never eat anything close to its expiration date

    • I will test out the food to see if it's been spoiled or not first

    • I will still eat it even if it tastes just a little funky

I wonder how strict OHers are when it comes to following a label's expiration date. Do you throw anything out after the expiration date? Do you test it out first?

I personally find milk easily spoiled and have tasted bad milk even before its expiration date. I usually have more faith in eating food that is maybe a few days past its expiration date if it's been preserved or has been in the freezer or kept really cold.

Very strictly.

When it comes to food that only has a "best before" date and no expiration date, I'll test it out to see if they're still good. "Best before" dates usually mean that food should be eaten before a certain date in order for it to taste good, and that after the date passed it won't taste as good anymore.

i feel ashamed to admit this but last weekend i made a cheesecake and when i was about to put the soft cheese in the mixer i found out it was 10 days past its expiration date  :derp: it looked just fine and smelled nice so i just put it in (i couldn't taste it because i'm fasting)

anyway, nothing bad happened and the cheesecake tasted just devine and i am about to have the last piece now

With food, I'm kinda iffy about it, esp with bread & dairy products. Other things like cookies aren't as bad tho (OREAS LAST 84 YEARS BEFORE YOU HAVE TO THROW THEM OUT, #TRUFAX!!!)

Now for things like skin products, if it's known to still be good after the date, or if it's discontinued, then I'll probably keep it around. If not, then I'll discard it, or donate it to a charity that takes it..

if it's gochujang or soy sauce that's just a suggestion...

i find eggs are sometimes ok after expiration too, shockingly

but almond milk?? that usually never lasts to the expiration date....

chicken and fish omg i eat that 1-2 days after buying if it gets even a few days close to expiration i'll throw it out (but i usually purchase what i'll be cooking that night)

i once ate a one year expired pudding, i almost died, people should stop selling expired products, it's fucking dangerous

I ate expired peanut butter someone gave me peanut butter and they didn't know it was expired..... It ruined peanut butter for me for 3 years  :._.:

but ye I literally throw it out just a minute after it expires  :rlytearpls: I'm too scared of getting killed by my only love

like if cheese is a few days close to the exp date, its going in the bin

yeah or other stuff, like I personally wouldn't recommend eating any type of meat past their expiration date unless it's deep frozen?? maybe then not always... especially not stuff like chicken and filet american. I had both of those past expiration date (different times though) and both made me super ill.

but I'd eat chocolate months if not over a year after expiration date if it isn't mushy or something (like just actually looks, feels and tastes how chocolate is supposed to taste) whoops
