Why would companies debut an idol group if they still have not demonstrated their full potential?

I saw a TWICE thread about how the girls know they are lacking and what not and how they still have time to improve.

http://onehallyu.com/topic/351807-twice-acknowledges-their-flaws/

Pardon me if this is a dumb question, but when you debut a group aren't you expecting a maximum return on investment? Wouldn't you want them to be skilled and 'perfect' even though it could be quite impossible to achieve the latter?

This question isn't limited to twice. I've seen the same thing be said about many other groups.

I love TWICE so ONCE i'm not attacking anyone! I just saw that thread and it made me think I just want feedback.  :)

mmm I don't know ....time? like some improve while performing

I get people give rookies a free pass sometimes

companies can't wait for their trainees to grow talent sometimes.....

obv it's better if you train, let's said 5-6 years and are actually good and skilled at least in one area (dancing or singing)

No humans get their full potential in one go. It needs experience. That's why there is still a lot of things to learn even after debuting. Also we're not freaking sims that has bars that if we reach level 10 we good. We all have different capacity to reach our full potential and even if we already feel satisfied of our skills right now, doesn't mean we can't get anymore better than that.

it's just called humbleness, they can not say "we know we already improved a lot that's why we deserve this award" in their winning speeches. it's okay if they are lacking because it can improve but the important is they are full of good manners, some idols put their fame in their heads, and maybe some are full of talent but they are lacking in manners.

JYP knows they are ready so that's why he decided to let them debut, but also its not JYP who really chose them to debut, its the people, the viewers who voted for them during sixteen :) the other candidates that was eliminated there are also good and talented but still people choose these 9 people because people see the better side of them.

and also almost idols who are successful now also been there, they maybe lacking during their rookie days too. everyone can improve, there's always a room for improvement, what people should have is good attitude passion, patience, and determination. i think this is the category that the idols or trainees should have and the companies should based on whether their trainees are ready for debut or not   :)

No one achieves their full potential at a young age. If you want full potential then you would have to change the idol age range. I think the important thing is that they show they can improve over time. I think almost all idol rookies start out a little rough on the edges but get better over time. Also, most rookies have other factors going against them. When you are a trainee, you get to have more free time and rest time but and idols case is different which is why a lot of their voices get tired out. So rookies usually have to get used to tight schedules.

So its about getting used to being tired + showing potential for improvement

It's easier for idols to gain their success and fame as a group, after they accomplished their success and fame agencies could give them solos or subunits to fully utilize their talent, e.g. Taeyeon of GG, Luna of f(x), Eunji of Apink, Jiyoon of 4minute. Imagine if Luna was not an f(x) member, she debuted as a soloist.

Well if they have some fans / recognition due to a show/freebie events its a good idea to debut while they are still in people minds

also it depends on what the company has on its roster/schedule

Better to debut when you can fully work with them and promote them (ie your free and other actsare busy)

sometimes the timing is more important then how ready they are
