Are exo fans used to the exo's dark skin jokes by now or still feel those jokes as insensitive ?

Recommended Posts

So, if I can recall correctly, there is a scene in EXO's SHOWTIME first episode, where Chanyeol and some exo members made a joke about Tao's  and Kai's dark skin color.  They said that Kai and Tao are so dark that they are hindering the light from shining to them (the light won't shine/the room still dark). And Kai and Tao were actually sitting next to each other, so the members made a joke how the area that  kai and tao were sitting at were dark compared theirs. Then Tao and Kai was arguing on who is actually darker between the both of them. Kai was like "but today, Tao is darker than me". and Tao was like, "no, kai is darker"

I feel like the insensitive dark skin comment/ joke will never end as long as Kai and Tao are in the group.

What and how do you feel about ongoing joke about dark skin color that seem to never end?

is it okay? insensitive? are you used to by now? bothered?

omg i just realized that showtime episode 2 is out with english subs

if baekhundred is a girl id sleep with her. LOL.

JUST BECAUSE OF HER FAST SUBBING SKILLS SHE CAN GET IT LOL

.... sorry this has nothing to do with the OP D:

but yes im bothered by the dark skin comment because once or twice is enough, but now its been mentioned like 8+ times on different occassions and ive had enough.

if I, a viewer and a casual fan, has had enough, i can bet all my money kai and tao are done too.

It's basically exactly the same as comments about Kyungsoo's height. The only reason why jokes about skin got more attention is that in some countries skin colour is a sensitive topic due to obvious historical issues.

I was never bothered by it at least because if they themselves are OK with these jokes on air, who I am to judge then.

I still think they're insensitive. People who fucking try to hide this shit under the rug or excuse it as fun and games between friends, well guess what? Kai recently said in an interview that he doesn't want to be asked anymore questions relating to skin color. It's like everyone forgot the fancam of him getting upset when Chanyeol joked and compared his skin color to his chair. Chanyeol tried to comfort him afterwards but Kai turned away. That obviously shows he doesn't find it amusing in the least, but his members keep dragging it out.

Well, in Korea..it's pretty much expected and accepted to make fun of people with a slightly darker skin tone. Personally, I don't agree with it, but it's their culture.. Tao and Kai probably don't like that they ares jokes, but they're probably used to it. SNSD has two resident tans(SooYoung&Yuri) but I rarely ever see their skin tone come to topic, but with Tao and Kai it's a regular thing..

It's funny though...people in America argue who is the darkest because they don't want to be people..it's funny when I see white people who is the darkest between them...

I'm bothered that Kai and Tao reacting to the joke like being dark skin is bad and none of them want to to be the darkest in the group.

A lot of things bothered me still, not just those dark comments coming from Tao's mouth but also the fact that Kai and Tao arguing between both of them on who is actually darker that they both being the darkest members also feel as if being dark is a bad thing. I'd appreciated it if they (being the 2 darkest members) were more confident and tell those people and say "I'm proud of my skin!"

And not to mention, its always the same people making those jokes like Chanyeol, Baekhyun, etc.

It still very much bothers me, it's true that it's in between friends, but at the same time they have fans all over the world who have darker skin, which they should be considerate about. And they're literally beating a dead horse for the millionth time. >.>

^

this too, definitely.

the fact I'm bothered the most is this.

It's kind of annoying for two reasons:

1. Their skin tone is not dark. Sure, they're not fair-skinned (most of them do not have fair skin), but their skin is light.

2. It's insensitive. I think that's self-explanatory.

It's a tired old joke that stopped being funny last year. I'm over it. Usually Kai just laughs it off when they say something, but recently he put the spotlight on Tao and said Tao is actually the darkest in the group, which I personally loved.
