When you first got into kpop...

were you surprised by how the beauty standards in Korea seem to be different/what kind of people are considered to be visuals in Korea?

I remember thinking Yoona was plain (lol) and never understanding why people thought Minho of SHINee was the visual. I thought people like Lee Seungi and Park Yoochun (yikes) weren't good looking. Faces like Sulli's and Seolhyun's bored me - something I can't even imagine now. :derp:  In that time I used to think Korea's idea of a visual was rather plain but now I can tell my preferences have shifted.

not really, i could understand why idols/actors like yoona, sulli, lee seungi, nichkhun etc were/are considered visuals/it-girls/boys. i thought they were extremly good-looking, even when i just got into kpop, and sulli has always looked perfect to me.

i guess my preference has been like this for a longer time now, as i still approve of those visuals

I feel you aside from Yoona. She brought me into K-pop, she's still pretty to me<3 The prettiest member in my eyes are seldom the visuals - namely, Seohyun is the prettiest in GG but Yoona is the visual (BUT SHE's ALSO VERY PRETTY), Sana and Mina are the prettiest in Twice but TzuNaMi are the visuals, Wendy is prettiest but Seulgi and Irene are the visuals.

tbh i'm still sometimes confused by who are considered the 'visuals' in groups and i've been into kpop for about 8 years

(not because i don't think the people considered visuals in their group aren't pretty btw, the 'non-visuals' are often just more handsome/pretty to me? e.g. in SNSD the prettiest to me is Yuri, in f(x) it's Victoria)

well I was into jpop before kpop so.. it wasn't that far of a stretch for me? it was more of a "they are all pretty why is only one being singled out as the prettiest??" my innocent 15 year old self haha

Definitely. Now I get it, and find them beautiful, but when I started I was so salty seeing how the girls thought were stunning, were always at the back because they weren't "that pretty" to koreans

I think the standard right now is more flexible. So, even when the "prototype" continues, it's more diverse

I've really shocked when I found people measure their head size

ikr.... :derp:

I thought Yuri suited visual position better than Yoona until I watched this fancam of Yoona and my opinion completely changed.

Through Yoona, I discovered an appreciation for the lovely aura of some female idols, which explains why I find Sulli and Irene beyond beautiful. I guess the same can be said for male idols/actors like L and Siwan. I consider all of them to be top visuals.

To be honest. I wouldnt like kpop if it werent for Sana. I know Yoona for a long time but i dont have any interest cause she looks like just ... Korea.. There are too many korean faces girl that seems alike. Thats why until know i like foreign members. Such as misamotzu, jackbamark, etc. i think jyp is very good at picking foreign members except suzy, she is goddess. Sm is better with their koreans
