I was extremely paranoid for quite a while. It's one of those things I never really think about happening to me, then it happens and it's like wow... She came home with her shirt sleeves ripped. My siblings and I didn't know anything, so we laughed at her, going out looking like a beggar with torn shirt like that (we joke around a lot in the household). After that, she just burst out in tears and said we were insensitive. She didn't go out 2 weeks after that - trauma. Had a huge impact on me this incident. My mom was fortunately okay; but many other robbery cases I read in the newspapers were harmed, so robbery cases hit a sensitive note to me - because it can happen to anybody close to me. They stole my dad's expensive watches and went through the entire house pulling out drawers and turning them over. Don't think they took much as they must have been in a hurry. They left our camcorder open and turned on on our living room couch, that was kind of weird. Nothing was recorded on it. The messed up part was that they entered through the window in my parents' room right over my baby sister's crib. If someone had been in the house and my sister with them asleep in her bed she could have gotten glass on her. Probably wasn't the best place to put a crib, but that window was always closed and the curtains thick so no light or draft could come in. Because of the way they entered we figured it must have been the neighbors who broke in. We never had any proof though and those same neighbors moved away shortly. I was running a couple miles around the park and left my bag under a tree. On one of my laps I saw him leaving with a buttload of water bottles on his bike. When I finished I went to the tree to find my bag open and my water bottle gone! I was so shocked because usually homeless/poor people only take empty bottles...I had to walk home all sweaty with an extremely dry throat and I held my bag at arms length because I was so creeped out. When we were in shops, the kids threw rocks at the car windows, broke them, and stole money and two cell phones. In 6th grade I got my first cell phone stolen. In 8th grade someone broke open my gym locker and stole all of my clothes and shoes (I had expensive things in there) and left their smelly sock instead. Last year my friend and I had a total of of $50 USD stolen, because someone broke open both of our lockers in the girls' locker room. Fun times.
