SM Entertainment Under Fire From Netizens For Boring And Unoriginal Concepts

Top agency SM Entertainment has been known as one of the top pioneers in the industry, having proven to be leaders in both music and marketing.

However, the company has recently been criticized by fans for allegedly recycling both their concepts and designs for all of their releases. According to fans, although the use of solid color backgrounds and basic fonts were fun and refreshing at first, the agency has overused the concept so much that they’ve started erasing the individuality of all their artists.

From Girls’ Generation‘s Tiffany and Taeyeon‘s solo releases to EXO‘s “Lucky One,†fans pointed out that all of the photos and album covers look like they come from the same exact template.

What's your opinion about this?

but tbh as a Sm stan myself their concepts are getting repetitive with all the aesthetic theme, and i was kind of disappointed with Ex'Act's album cover

I agree, and it's starting to get redundant.

What I liked the most about SM was how diverse and unique each groups and artists were.

From TVXQ to The Trax, from SNSD to f(x), they all have/had unique sounds and colors.

But it feels like for the past year or so they've only been recycling the same "trendy" stuff over and over again and not just with the music but with the music videos, designs and stuff.

Honestly, it would be nice to have some sort of story like what BTS did. It's just so... cohesive... and draws me in. Standalone videos that don't have stories/souls/plots are kind of boring. I mean--it would be better if they had plots, but it's possible for the videos to still be interesting.

SM's "theme" this year:

Some of the concepts have been good, like RV's Dumb Dumb and One of These Nights (if the song wasn't boring).

But you know, SM could have taken full opportunity for this whole aesthetic kick to have great album packaging...it's gotten worse since last year.
