Why do people care so much about SM's album sales distribution?

It's funny when no one talk about SM's event and overseas promotions profit distribution.

Events

C : 60

S : 40

Overseas promotions

C: 30

S: 70

SM distribution of album sales is sad af but the main income of a singer is not from their album but tours/events.

And this is sad when some people think SM artists is not rich because of their album sales distribution.

Just look at U2 and madonna, their current album sales is not as great as the new popular singers but they make a hundred million dollar in year just from their tour.

Does that mean U2 and madonna are least rich from the singer who can sold more album than them?

Album sales profit is just a penny compare to the tours profit.

Cuz they just wanna shade SM idols.

Only in Kpop would "Stfu your idols are making less per album than mine" be a thing to say.

By the way, those numbers are totally made up and have no substantial backing.

why do people care about sm at all? their music isn't good, the only thing they have going for them is their looks and ability to provide a bandwagon for people who are too lazy to look for actual good music on their own

Believe it or not I actually find that SM produces some of the best music in kpop

Because they don't understand that music sales (BOTH physical and especially digital) don't turn a profit, especially in Korea (they don't even in the US) - so 50% of nothing is the same as 10% of nothing. EXO may be the only group that actually turns a small profit with their physical sales, but that money is going to UNICEF.

People miraculously ignored the fact that SM actually has the BEST income distribution out of all the big companies for overseas touring and promotion, aka where idols ACTUALLY make the vast majority of their money.

But you know, the evil SM narrative has to be fed, and people have to bring slavery into it, forgetting how fucking offensive that is

Yeah, album sales profit distribution is abysmal (unless the artists profited from song royalty).

Overseas activities and acting/modelling (including cf) gigs are where the artists get their income.

Ia. Some of their songs (esp. title tracks) are not for me but can't deny that the production quality is top notch.

Also, it doesn't seem crazy. Think about it SM doesn't really have idols self producing, except for 5. They hire foreign producers, lyricists, choreographers, basically they import stuff for their idols. SM needs to pay back all that plus they like to make packaging and concepts all nice, but that costs a lot of money. Unlike in YG who have their idols self produce they need to have the split more even because it's more fair that way.

Why does anyone care about anything? It gives them something to talk about.

why do people care for profit distributions percentages compiled by random internet users on a korean forum  :imstupid: how can you take the same source that claims YG idols sign 5 years max contracts when we all know Lee Hi signed a 10 years long one seriously? or should we just conveniently pick what to believe and what to throw away from the exact same source?

even if these numbers have had any semblence of truth at some point in time, i hope people realize that idols can settle for better things every time they resign so these numbers can't be set in stone (assuming they were true to begin with) and can't remain always the same for everyone. like Heechul said, the reason they lasted long is resigning their contracts cleverly~
