Yup, I have to prepare what I'm going to say before I actually call the person up and when I do call up there are a lot of "ums" and pauses. I used to rehearse the things I used to say irl, like I'll be like "okay today ur going to say how are you to so and so" but I've developed a temper and a mouth so I'm not like that anymore

Sometimes I write down things to say before I call so I'm not fumbling for words.

For example, "Good -insert time of day-. This is -name- and -insert reason for calling or whatever else-." Of course the script changes depending on who I'm talking to.

the first time I called my vocal coach to get the deets I had to go through a pep talk from my friend and a day of practice but I was supposed to call him back and I never did until like 4 days after when I decided to do it by text  :)  :)  :)  :)  :)  :)  :)

I have it, I think it's pretty common those days. Due to technology people communicate by typing, and slowly forget how to communicated verbally without one to one interaction.

I don't know, it was pretty common in the past as well. my mum had it and she said plenty of people back then had the same. the difference is now you may notice it more because we have alternatives, then you had significantly less options.

The only thing I can do is pre-arrange calls. So I only call people at certain times on certain days and vice versa. This makes me feel better as I can mentally prepare and figure out what I'm going to say.

But unexpected phone calls still freak me out. I had two today and I've been shaky for the rest of the day. And they were important calls too so of course I end up saying everything I can just to get off the phone asap and end up agreeing to things I didn't want to and immediately regretted it once I hung up.

I used to be a lot worse. There was a time when I would go into a panic attack as soon as I knew I had to call someone. I think giving yourself time to prepare is the best thing. It helped me a lot.

That's interesting, thanks for sharing. So I guess people even back then people had trouble communicating without seeing a person. I mean, when you talk to somebody face to face, you can read them somewhat. On the phone, you're basically speaking with the unknown. Unknown is what causes anxiety. Or at least, that's what I think.

I understand you. Every time I need to make a call is a battle.

But I try to pretend the person is in front of me, and before making the call I laugh so my voice sounds more friendly and not so tense...

lgjkjln; I do that in the morning, so my voice does not sound scary

but yeah, I never had phone call anxiety until recently....which is super weird, I never had a problem with it

I don't have anxiety (I used to do tech support over the phone) but I hate it. I avoid calling if at all possible.

I do have social anxiety but it's worse face to face than on the phone.

I kinda have it. It sucks. I prepare and practice what i want to say, cough countless time to check my voice. I prefer texting because of this. But for me the worst leaving voice mails. I can't talk properly when i know i just speak to a complete silence. So awkward i hate it

I have a really bad habit of stuttering when I am suddenly asked something where I didn't have the answer prepared lol. I usually say, "sorry can you repeat that?". *sigh* If I'm making an official/professional call, I write down key things I want to say so I won't forget anything :derp:

ugh I am the same. For some reason I think is worse for me if I know the person I'm calling

But doesn't happen if it is a conversation face to face tho...

yes it does always happen to me but I just give it a go and try my best especially when im in front of my family members, I don't want to be seen as if im too afraid to talk to someone over the phone but anytime I'll prefer texting or email.

My voice can go loud to quiet or even squeaky depending on who I'm speaking to that's very annoying can do nothing about it.
