Using apple music without downloading your entire music library?

I have no idea if this is the right place to ask this but I recently downloaded the free trial of apple music. It seemed like a good way to get free music for a few months, but now apple music is putting my entire music library (5,000+) songs on my phone.

Is there any way to use apple music without having your entire music library show up on your phone (apart from the songs you already downloaded).

hmmmm idk I use apple music but I play songs like spotify and not download can you not do that?

I could, although the point of downloading it was just to download the music offline. I guess I have to put the songs in playlists to avoid the non-downloaded songs...

iCloud Music Library uploads all your library and syncs it across all devices. You can only save music for offline use if iCloud Music Library is enabled.

You can delete the songs from your phones storage though. If you go into settings > general > storage & iCloud usage > storage and tap on the Music app you can delete songs from local storage. Of course your entire library including what was on your PC/Mac will remain "in the cloud" but it doesn't have to take up space on the phone. It shouldn't affect your library on your Mac or PC either but always always always have a backup anyway, lol.

Then you could save songs for offline use and in the Music app, choose to only show songs downloaded to your device. That way you will only see Apple Music (and whatever songs from your local library that you elect to keep on the phone.)
