Current university students, when do you graduate and do you have any idea as to what you want to do when you leave?

Recommended Posts

I just finished my second year of uni, and it hit me about 10 minutes ago that like.

Oh my god.

I graduate next year. Scary shit. I have to like, become an adult, and have responsibilities and stuff.

And it's terrifying because I have some idea of what I want to do but also like...idk. Looking at graduate schemes is giving me actual anxiety.

Do any of y'all have any idea on what you want to do with your lives once you leave? Or are you pretending it ain't happening like me.

Done with three years, with a year and a summer left. I don't know any specifics yet (haven't done job searching stuff) but I will probably attend job fairs and such in the fall. I'm not too worried because chemical engineers from my school are fairly desirable. I just hope I can get a job fairly close to home because I really enjoy my family and hometown. If I can't, it'd be nice to be someplace with nice internet, or Chicago because that's where the TERA servers are  :megusta:

I'm mildly worried, but I have a whole year to figure stuff out--and this year is going to be very chill/relaxed since I have hardly any courses left to take.

I don't want to go to grad school unless/until I find out that there's some specific topic in ChE that highly interests me through my work. Going to grad school without a plan is dumb.

I still have about half mandatory credits left and I'm still not sure about my major let alone what I wanna do next. I just know I won't be back home. Well, at least I don't have to worry about debt and I guess I can find a decent job, although non-related to my schooling in the meantime. I should've gone into engineering and bore the hell that are physics for those 3 years :rlytearpls: :rlytearpls:

I graduate next year but I have to figure out what to do after graduation either the nursing program for another bachelors degree or to do graduate school in a different area of study.

Ugh university is so stressful and it makes people go through a mid-life crisis when they're in their late teens/early twenties like wtf.

I'm about to finish my first year. I'm going into accounting, so I want start interning soon. Also, my school is well-respected by a lot of the big firms, so hopefully I'll be able to find a firm that wants to hire me when I graduate  :rlytearpls:

You guys should look into internships. Did an internship the summer of my junior year and was extended a full time offer for when I graduated a year later

Was your internship related to your degree? I'm struggling to find one related to my degree, or to the specific area I'd like to go into.

Honestly I had more dreams and aspirations when I was in elementary school than now after going through college. I don't want to think ahead and go with the flow but having actual responsibilities suck. Growing up really pigeon holed what I feel like I can do and can be in the future so it sucks. I feel like I'm going to end up hating my career and going back to college and getting another degree.

Please just let me major in nap time.

i should be getting my degree this year (crossing my fingers, i'm getting my results for this semester on monday) but i'm not done yet~

i've applied to my uni grad school program and to some engineering schools (still waiting for the results for those aaah) and then i have two things that i'm interested in doing rn, if my grades allow it
-get into research either through engineering or in a university lab (but i don't have much hope for that, what with the current job perspectives :._.: :._.: :._.: )
-do something related to science but not "scientific" per say ie scientific communication or commercialization - or even teaching (if i continue in grad school)

so like two different things........ but i'm interested by both fml......... and for all i know i suck too much to do either eyy tumblr_m7wusejA2Z1r17mw1.gif

anyway i totally get you, finding out what you want to do with your life can be quite hard, i'm not totally there myself either tumblr_m7wusejA2Z1r17mw1.gif, all i can tell you is good luck, try to talk to different profs about it, and try not to stress out yourself too much either (easier said than done, i know)

I graduate in 4 years, so there's still time for me. I'm supposed to choose my "major" next year though, but I have no freaking idea of what I'm going to do...

Edit : Wait, I just realized what is the equivalent in my country. Lmao, flop. I graduated last year.

Was your internship related to your degree? I'm struggling to find one related to my degree, or to the specific area I'd like to go into.

It was more related to my concentration than my degree. However it was still somewhat related and did let me get a foot in the door and a way to eventually move into a position that better suited my degree.

I'd recommend reaching out to your professors once you're in the upper level classes or going to job fairs. Ask other students with the same degree about if and where they got their internships.

I also graduate next year and I understand how it can be stressful just thinking about the future. I know a year isn't much but it's still a good amount of time to plan for what it is you're going to do and how you're going to do it. I would suggest, as much as possible, try blocking out any outside source of pressure/stress, or anything that'll just cause you to be anxious (whether it be from other people or from family etc.). Focus solely on deciding your path and just think: people have gone through it just fine and so will you. The more you push that fact aside, the greater anxiety it'll cause you when that day actually comes. So my suggestion is to start facing it little by little everyday!

What I do is keep tabs on companies/places I'll look to apply to once I graduate, list them all out every now and then. Not only that but my university helps out new grads even just a little so there's that also. Good luck! :)

well the answer has been pretty clear since the day i started studying for the entrance exam for my current university though.

i'm gonna be a graphic designer. i think i'll start taking projects/freelance jobs in my senior year to gather experiences and then i'll find a fixed job after graduation. and with those jobs, i'll save enough money to open my own design studio.
