The pseudonymous Chinese writer A'nai, famous for penning the local TV drama Ode to Joy, chooses to remain in the dark. Some rumors suggest that she is a successful businesswoman living in Ningbo, a city in east China's Zhejiang Province, who writes only as a hobby, Yangtse Evening Post reports.

From the clothes and make-up to the actors and actresses, discussions about Ode to Joy are ubiquitous on social media.

Fans regularly queue up to visit the real-life coffee shop which is frequented by female characters in the drama. A book called The Logic of Collective Action, which was mentioned by the heroine in the show, was sold out within a week.

Some discussions focus on the mysterious identity of the story's writer, and many fans hope the truth will be revealed. Some netizens have even begun looking for the writer themselves.

A'nai made a statement which said that searching for her may get her in trouble. Moreover, the writer stressed her three personal principles on work: no meetings; no photos or profile; and, no participation in the drama's TV production.

Making a phone call is the only way to get in touch with the author, said a production editor.

Anecdotes depict A'nai as a successful businesswoman with slender figure who lives a rich life.

Known since 2004, A'nai has been regarded as a pioneer of publishing literary works online. Most of her peers have similarly gained fame through selling the rights of their created novels for TV.

However, A'nai is unique. She has chosen to live a peaceful life without being annoyed by fame.

From the point of view of the author, writing is a hobby for her to share stories online with readers.

In a chat with fans online, A'nai said Chinese TV dramas of originality would encounter a boom stage with the emergence of large numbers of shows of good quality.

Ode to Joy is set in Shanghai and follows the lives of a group of five women – three in their 20s and two in their mid-30s – who despite their different personalities and backgrounds, remain inseparable and confide to each other of life and romance by renting adjacent houses at the community apartment, which is also called Ode to Joy.

In terms of the success of her creation, A'nai said that the credit should go to the production team in making a wise decision as to the selection of her work.

Meanwhile, the mysteries of A'nai remain veiled to protect her from society's hustle and bustle.

Who on earth don't want to be fame? Yes, she is. I think she is the only one person who think this way.

supposibbly she is a mid-to-low ranking government official as well, don't want to attract too much attention.
