Video Games, synonymous with "the best thing to exist since air!"can have moments that leave the player completely void of all rational thought as they try to figure out what they just witnessed. Great shockers can have players mentally rewinding their entire game experience and questioning how they possibly missed all of the hints-hints that now seem to so obvious in hindsight. So, what do you consider some of the most shocking secrets that a video game has dropped on you?

The main protagonist of this tale is set on a path of vengeance after a being named the “Black Monster†(really heavy on the evil imagery there eh?) destroyed his hometown and slaughtered his parents. He teams up with new and old friends and becomes entangled in a quest to save the world from the “Black Monster†that appears every 108 years to kill a being called the “Moon Childâ€.

 

THE SHOCKER: At the end of the tale, not only is it revealed that his oldest friend, Shana is the Moon Child but that one of his other close companions is THE BLACK MONSTER. To make matters worse, The Black Monster is actually attempting to save the world because the Moon Child is actually a God of Destruction and will end time…. well bye dearest friends, it was nice knowin you??!!

Long story short: Yes, this is the short version considering that this story has been told over the length of like 5-6 years, bruv.

 

Important stuff

 

FADE: a world of pure magic that people can only enter when they dream. Physically entering this place is supposedly impossible and even thinking about doing this is worse than trying to pass Sehun off as a rapper. Spirits (not dangerous) and demons (very dangerous) live in this place and the latter can possess people, and enter the physical world through them (you think an STD is hard to get rid of, try a demon).

 

VEIL: the only thing that separates the FADE from the waking/real world.

 

MAGE: can connect to the FADE, use it as fuel and do magic due to this, like sajaeging your faves into stardom with a flick of the wrist.  

 

ELVES: “allegedly†used to be THE BOSS BETCHES, had a beautiful existence, separate from the world of man thousands and thousands of years ago but they were atccked by humans, lost, forced into slavery and then came to be considered second class citizens of the world (boy, does some of this scenario sound familiar or what America…?).

Anywho, they worshipped elven gods, one in particular, called the “The Dread Wolf†or “The Tricksterâ€, is accused (no evidence) of trapping all of the elven gods in a place far away and then retreating to the FADE ^ and laughing himself into unconsciousness. 

 

Consequently, when the humans came to fight the elves, they had no help and lost. Therefore, 99.9% of elves hate The Dread Wolf because they blame him for their downfall since he locked their precious benevolent gods away forever. They even tattoo designs on their faces in order to honour these old ones, each elven god has their own design that the elves can pick from.

 

YOUR STORY 

You wake up to a world where there are tears in the veil and because of this, the FADE is slowing merging into the real world. This is destroying the world. However, somehow, you and you alone have the power to close these tears/rifts and restore order (ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT FOREST FIRES!). You don’t know how you acquired this power because you have bloody amnesia (convenient). So of course, you decide to be the hero and of course, you recruit a team of other crazy bastards who will help you. You suffer a lot, you make besties for life, and you even get laid if you’re lucky and fall in love if you’re unlucky.

 

Along the way you find out: someone caused the tears in the world by using an orb of pure raw power (belonged to one of the elven gods) to rip a huge hole in the veil. You walked in on this person doing something bad, the orb was dropped, you picked it up like a moron and the power attached itself to your hand. GOOD NEWS: you beat this evil person and destroy the orb.

 

BAD NEWS: YOU LOSE A MEMBER, SOLAS (an elven mage who showed you how to close rifts, gave you a new home and was basically the reason why you were able to be a hero in the first place and survive). Depending on how you played, this person’s importance to you varies, he can be a COMPANION, ENEMY, BEST FRIEND OR LOVER, he leaves and never returns after the battle finishes.

 

REALLY BAD NEWS: THE POWER THAT YOU ACQUIRED IS ACTUALLY EATING YOU ALIVE (HAHAHA that’s what you get for picking random shite up off the floor)

 

SHOCKER: THE ORB BELONGS TO SOLAS………

 

SHOCKER SHOCKING BAD NEWS: HE GAVE IT TO THE BAD GUY TO UNLOCK THE POWER SINCE HE WAS TOO WEAK.

Why was he too weak, you ask? Because he’s been asleep for a small eternity. WHY HAS HE BEEN ASLEEP FOR A SMALL ETERNITY?????? PREPARE YOURSELF.

 

Solas is the Dread Wolf.

 

He locked the elven gods away forever. The elven gods were actually just powerful mages who made their own people into slaves. Each "god" would require their slave to tattoo their face as a branding. Solas hated what they were doing but finally had enough when the elven "gods" betrayed and killed “the best of us†an elven goddess. He locked them away by creating the veil, it completely separated the elves from their magic (the FADE, the fade and the real world used to be one world), their realm came apart, the fade became unstable and then THIS MOTHERFKER WENT TO FKING SLEEP!!!!!! The elves fell into ruin, the humans came and attacked and the rest is history.

 

THE MOST SHOCKING WORST NEWS EVER: Solas woke up to what he describes as a nightmare and he wants to reverse what he did. Which means tearing down the veil (yes, this twat wants to do the same exact thing that he just spent years helping you to stop from happening) and having the fade be part of the real world once more, like when the elves ruled-which will kill everyone but the elves because he will gather all of them to a safe place and nothing you say will stop him from doing this. Mind you, you have saved the world for three consecutive games now and this little shat comes along and tells you all of this. Basically telling you that all of the crap that you've been through in each game has been a direct or indirect result of his creation of the veil.
