Ogre Shrek 8,980
Nice! With the on-going strikes and the ever present terrorism threat hanging over the host nation, let's all keep our fingers crossed that (at least for the duration of the tournament) the focus will be on football and not anything else. Who do y'all think will win? I fancy current world champion Germany... although once the tournament starts, I'll probably change my mind and throw my support behind one of the underdogs... Well my bias for Germany aside I feel like France has a really good team this year. Belgium and England looked good during the qualifications as well. I think whoever can dump England out will win it. England doesn't have as big as teams in their group so they should qualify, they have HurriKane, Vardy, etc. they could go on a bit of a roll. If a team stops them in their tracks then I believe they will go to the final instead of them.

Azucar 1,132
I think the tournament is pretty open this year, there are a few teams who have a good chance of winning it imo. Short rundown on the teams that I think are favourites: Spain seems to be in a developing stage atm, and Del Bosque is too stubborn to change his ways. It's tough to predict their lineup with him in charge. There seems to be a lack of goalscorers in their squad too, I rate Aduriz but not sure how he will cope. He should've really taken one of Paco Alcacer/Torres as well. Nolito to be a standout for them imo (assuming he starts...can never be sure). They have an elite GK, great defence and strong midfield though. If Del Bosque doesn't mess up with the lineup too much, they can go far. Germany are stacked in midfield and central defence but nowhere else. Scoring goals won't be a problem with Muller, Ozil and Reus but they seem pretty weak at fullback. There are a lot of players in the squad that don't really look like they deserve a place in the squad, and the fact that Lowe is planning to use players like Can at RB doesn't seem very assuring. Schweinsteiger was a big part of their team and he's not his usual self anymore. Kroos will probably slot into his role alongside Khedira. For some reason I can see Germany get knocked out by the quarters, just have a feeling. Belgium have an awesome squad on paper but they still don't seem to know their best XI, and Wilmots as manager is still baffling. It seems crazy that they'll play Vertonghen and Alderweireld as fullbacks considering the season they just had together as a pair for Spurs, but they don't really have a choice with their lack of options. He even used experimented with Witsel as RB yesterday which was kinda nuts lmao. That said, their attacking options are great. An on-form attack of Hazard, De Bruyne and Carrasco looks nuts. Not sure who their striker will be, Lukaku probably but Origi and Batshuayi deserve a chance too. France are probably my favourite team on paper for the tournament. They just have so many good young options in every position. Even with Varane, Zouma and Laporte all injured, they still have so many capable replacements. I'm biased because of Martial, but I can see him, Griezmann and Payet all have a great tournament. Their midfield is also very balanced. Sadly Giroud will probably be a starter, but still think they're the favourites for the tournament. England have the best forward options going into the tournmant imo, you just always expect Kane and Vardy to score if they're through on goal. The defence is a bit shaky and lacks experience, and you don't know what to expect from Hart. Midfield doesn't look amazing to me either but they have a lot of workhorses with plenty of energy. Just get the ball to Alli, Vardy and Kane and let them do the damage. Unsure about Rooney, hopefully he's fired up for the Euros, he looked really sharp when he came on against Australia. Portugal have the Ronaldo factor, but not sure if he'll be 100% for the Euros. We have a really strong midfield this time around and dumped players like Meireles and Veloso who were somehow automatic starters the last few years. The options upfront are horrible again though, I have no idea how or why Eder is in the squad. Defence is ageing too with inexperience at fullback. Ronaldo will have to play upfront as much as he dislikes it, so there'll be a big reliance on him to score. I think they can really dominate games with the midfield options we have, but scoring goals might be an issue if Ronaldo isn't on game. There seems to be a real lack of quality at fullback overall tbh. Croatia and Poland are the darkhorses for me from the teams I haven't mentioned. Can see either of them reach the semi's. Personally hoping for either France, Portugal or England to emerge as winners. Can't wait for it to start.

foxjoo8 1,124
My team not in it so I dont care Jk On a serious note, I think Germany wont win it. Spain and England wont win it either. I think Italy, France and Belgium will have a good chance to win. One of the underdogs team like Turkey, Wales, Poland and Austria can go far until semi final ------------------------- Also, Reus out of Euro due to injury. This guy is really unlucky

Ogre Shrek 8,980
Click here to view the Tweet So Townsend and Drinkwater cut from the final 23. I can understand Drinkwater's exclusion; England doesn't exactly play like Leicester, and there are others in the squad who have his skill set. But Townsend? He's always done well when he puts on the England shirt, and offers something different (pace on the wings) which could be useful if England falls behind and gets desperate. I'd have had him in, in place of Henderson (who has never played well for England) or Wilshere (too injury-prone).

If Dier is injured, they have no one to anchor the midfield. Drinkwater would have been perfect. Same for Townsend with Sterling the only real winger with pace in the side. I would've dropped Henderson/Wilshere and Barkley myself. #10 is stocked and Barkley's form has been terrible recently so I don't see the need to take him. As always, he picks profile and reputation over form. I also think Welbeck's injury really messed up his original plans for the Euros.
foxjoo8 1,124
This England team wont need any winger as they need to start all 3 of Kane, Vardy and Rooney. Roy will mostly go for a narrow 4-4-2 diamond so not surprising if he exclude wingers in his team.

Using wingers and stretching the play late on in games could be their plan B. England played nearly all their qualifying games with a 433 so it's a system the players are used to. Don't think they would cope very well playing narrow against the bigger sides. No Saul or Gabi in the Spain squad, makes no sense either welp. But we know Hodgson, he made many stupid things before. Dont know why he is still their manager. Saul robbed big time seriously. Carefree 1,145
Wow Reus is out of the Germany squad, and after this was posted today? monochrome. 480
I don't really have a team as I'm not European. But I'll support Sweden because of my best friend. Very tough group. Getting that W in the first game vs Ireland is crucial. They have to win that game. And hopefully, Belgium or Italy under perform and they can sneak enough points to advance to the next round. :3 Other than Sweden, I'll support France or any underdogs! :D Damn... Reus. He's one of my favorite players to watch. He already missed out on the World Cup. :'(
