I always wondered why Cnetizen seemed to hate Tao and like Kris and Luhan much more. I always thought that comparing Tao to Luhan and Kris was unfair. They had more than a year to establish themselves solo before Tao. Comparing Tao's while he's starting his solo career to Luhan and Kris who were starting to be established stars made no sense. Tao chose to focus on music first despite the fact that it's not a lucrative industry right now in China especially for new artist due to copyright issues and it's hard to become successful through that route. Most start with Movies. That may have contributed to him getting recognized less quickly at first. Add to that Tao's 4D personality, he's not a typical idol, doesn't behave like a typical idol or says typical idol things he's very straightforward. It can be shocking for some. I personally love it, now that he's on his own you can see more that Tao is much deeper and wiser than he's given credit for he's not naive he's an idealist, an artist a forward thinker. I think people just needed time to get to know Tao, a lot of people react negatively to anything different and resist change. Like Li Yapeng said in his interview,once you get to know Tao, you realize he's a great guy and people might react negatively because they have not made a deeper connection with him so don't understand his motives and are quick to judge. Add to that that there must have been media play to make him look as bad as possible when he left Exo +bitter fans and the inaccurate image heavily reliant on fan fiction that he had when he was part of Exo. The most important thing: even if netizen where bashing when it comes to people Tao actually worked with : directors, actors, other singers, staff etc... Their comments were completely opposite of netizens, he impressed everyone with his work ethic and charmed everyone with his sweet and fun character they have nothing but great things to say about him and don't take the bashing seriously, they've seen it all,in any case it gave him attention, and increased ratings, even in the People in the news interview it was concluded that Tao's experience with negativity was not unique since a lot of A list star went trough the same thing in their beginnings Tao has proven his worth, he's a successful musical artist, great at variety and his movies and acting are getting great buzz and the public is getting to know him better, a lot of the comments from the CNetizen above said this, once they started getting to know Tao and watch his show and listened to his music they fell in love and realized the bashing made no sense. It just brainless bandwagon hate. Petty sh*t. It will only get better from here, once his movies get released Tao's fame will reach a whole new level. He laid the foundation for his career all of last year, now he's seeing the results, he's rising fast. This year 2016 his the year that Tao will be a major star. Definitely not in the same degree, Tao has many stupid controversies and he is also very outspoken.I love these comments because they're all from new fans, many who only checked on him because of controversies (like what happened to me with IU, I only checked her because of controversy and now I absolutely love her). I hope more of these get translated more often. I'm sort of like the last comment here. I only used to like him in Exo because of appearance, I was ready to let him go as bias when he left (not because of resentment but because I honestly didn't think much of him as a musician, I haven't given it much thought since I wasn't a hardcore fan of him) but he totally surprised me with his solo music, I really liked everything he put out on his 1st and 2nd mini and I'm loving even more the stuff he has shown of his upcoming album.Now I have totally fallen for him, in many years of liking kpop I never stanned an individual as much, even though he is cpop now. Tao was super popular before and upon debut, his martial arts gained a lot of attention, but some people started spreading disgusting rumors about him in weibo(you can only speculate about the reasons why this was done and to him in particular), his baidu bar reported about losing fans because of the rumors when other members were gaining fans.In example another Exo member fandom made up a rumor which spread on weibo about Tao stealing their bias shoes, which was proven false (the shoes they claimed Tao stole were given to him by one of his fansites and they do not use the same shoe size so it doesn't make sense) but damage was already done to his reputation. There was also another member fandom that hated on Tao with reasons like he was gay (according to them, he isn't gay or at least he hasn't said anything like that) and they didn't want him to befriend their bias because they claimed he will turn him gay. The connotations on this one are particularly disgusting. There's a lot of fandom history and a lot of other rumors like these which were mostly spread by other Exo members fans (this is reality, even if it may upset ExoL, that's how the fandom is, unfortunately). It is not unusual that bad rumors are more easily spread than good news or clarifications. Because Tao comes from a REALLY REALLY wealthy family while Kris does not and Luhan's skin > Tao's. This isn't true. It was CNetz who cherry picked Tao's old weibo and QQ posts to claim he was poor and hated on him for that reason as well.
