Because I am irate at the violence against women. That I am sick and tired of hearing in the news women were attacked or killed because they ignored or disregarded a man. Because a man' ego was hurt. Because I don't feel like everytime a man inappropriately catcalls or flirts I have to smile or act politely. That I shouldn't have to feel obligated to smile back. That a failure to smile could lead to violence. This is fear. Men don't understand it. Female teenagers are taught safety at a young age for a reason (carry keys a certain way, have a phone nearby, walk fast, etc). This is a culture of fear. And it's exhausting and wrong. Edit 2: Really? At least 4 people negged this. Oh well. My opinion remains: there is a culture of fear and violence of/against women is a serious problem. Mayu Tomita, 20, has yet to regain consciousness after suffering nearly two dozen stab wounds to her neck and chest. Police arrested Tomohiro Iwazaki, 27, after he was seen assaulting Tomita with a knife at an event held in a building in the city at around 5 p.m. on Saturday. The suspect was reported to be a fan of hers and has admitted attacking her, according to police. Tomita may have been a victim of stalking. The Metropolitan Police Department said the idol had consulted police earlier this month, saying a man named Iwazaki had persistently written to her via her blog and Twitter account. When police received a call from an eyewitness and rushed to the scene, they found a bloody folding knife. Iwazaki was standing nearby and admitted using the knife to stab her.
