when i learned korean i realized my taste in kpop drastically changed. there was some catchy music that were my fave songs prior to not knowing korean that dropped off my fave lists (realized the lyrics were childish lol though they sounded ok if you relied on english subs) . it also helped me understand why certain songs were super popular in korea like cherry blossom ending and kyuhyun's gwanghamun which could be quite boring to international fans.

was wondering if any others experienced the same thing not only with kpop, but jpop and mandopop.

Ofc. That's what I feel about songs in english. Lyrics plays a part on whether or not I like a song. For example Blurred Lines I like the song at first but after I learn the lyrics I can't stand the song. I'm ok with simple yet relatable lyrics not all songs need to be deep/contemplative/poetic, what I can't stand is lyrics that is against my personal principals.

A lot of songs have weird lyrics and when you understand Korean (even to some extend) then the song will change for you. Like when I listen to songs and have the translation in my head it will sound weird af

On the other hand Eunji's hopefully sky lyrics are beautiful that I enjoy listening to it more

Hmm... I'm not someone who overly listens to the lyrics but instead the tune, so I'll be satisfied if the song has a nice tune. However, it'll, of course, be an added bonus if the lyrics are meaningful

There are also witty lyrics that only people who understand the language will be able to catch on tbh
