What do you think will happen to Gfriend and Red Velvet once...

...YGNGG debuts? And Twice makes another hyped comeback?

I'm just wondering seeing as how when Gfriend was dominating, there weren't very many active big girlgroups in play, so they won a lot. And seeing as how YGNGG are set to debut soon and we all know they'd be monster rookies, how will that affect RV and GF popularity?

Please don't view this as a troll thread because it isn't. We have seen the popularity of many girlgroups before have their entire career be pulled from under them by another competitor. The Kpop industry is very fickle and competitive and if the general public do not see an appeal in you or you've been gone for too long or keep making horrible comebacks, they'd leave. Which is what happened with RV when Twice debuted.

When RV debuted, all eyes were on them. They held everyone's attention for a while and have tried to have successful comeback again and again, but have not managed to do so as of yet. This is just reality, and with almost 2 years under their belt, they still haven't hit it big. I feel SM as a company and general public knows this and are aware of it. And when Twice debuted, RV were just left to dry on the back burner.

History repeats itself. Yes, not from the same place of origins, but the very idea and situation at hand will keep on repeating until the end of time. I feel some groups are just not meant to succeed and some do.

Which brings me to my topic. Do you think the universe as a whole right now is just waiting for YGNGG to make their grand entrance? The reason the stars haven't aligned with past YG comebacks is because the universe is telling us that success is meant for YGNGG? Do you think what happened to RV will somehow happen to GF?

They've been held off year after year and if they truly do make a debut this July, I imagine a lot of companies (sans JYP) will be very afraid. YG is still a force to be reckoned with, if they do the new girl group right, they WILL hit it big and many people will take notice.

Again, this is not a troll thread...this is just me having self awareness and able to look past beyond the false facade of what many fandoms or certain groups try to put up.

What are all y'all thoughts on this matter? Are Twice x YGNGG just meant to be? :)

Wait the Pink Punk to the debut. Some people are too extra.

G-FRIEND has the most popular girl group song of 2015 and 2016.

They will be ok as long they keep releasing amazing songs.

I believe G-FRIEND company will keep doing their best for them.

I don't see them slowing down.

Even though Twice success now is overwhelming, G-FRIEND songs are still high on the chart(top 20 after 18 weeks and top 40 after 45 weeks) and they are everywhere in events and magazines.

are we going to pretend Dumbx3 and ICC never happened?

They'll both do well. Gfriend digitals are top tier. RV digitals are inconsistent (good for red side bad for velvet side) but their physicals are strong, But we'll never know until it happens

Gfriend depends on their korean popularity as their international fanbase is not big enough, considering one of tzuyu's taiwan Facebook fan page garnered 200,000 over likes while gfriend official Facebook page only has about 150k likes. if gfriend had a bad comeback, there goes their career

Gfriend will be alright. They'd be like sistar. Loved by public, high digital sales & lots of hit songs. Not really competing directly with snsd, but still quietly going strong.

And twice vs YGNGG will be like snsd vs 2ne1.

RV will be just like f(x) in 2010-2012 era. Pretty popular, high physical sales, decent digital but not the top contender for nation's GG like snsd & 2ne1 back then.

i'm sorry but what ??

and you're wrong about 2016 rough is successful but not the most successful song in 2016 that belongs to cheer up and the shashasha craze it started articles are being made of twice leading the 3rd generation in korea and knetz acknowledging it

just because the sales #'s are higher because it was released months earlier doest automatically make in the most popular/successful song lol

in reality cheer up has had more impact than rough and there is no denying this

I honestly think so too. Gfriend are in a tough predicament. They are not the type to solely rely on their company's name although their company has media played and made the group pay homage to their seniors, so it's very crucial for them to stay consistent with what they release. Even if they fall off just once or get into a scandal, they're over. While on the other hand, YGNGG has YG which is still very much one of the biggest in Korea and the entire Kpop industry, so they're somewhat secure.

"Rough" is so far the most successful song of the year and you would know the impact if you actually were not blind and full of hate.

There is is the entire year ahead, but so far "Rough" is the #1.

You talk about "shashasha", but "Rough" was covered by many groups and also performed on singing shows, reality shows and all type of variety shows.

It has a huge impact too.

It's a big market, and I'd be a lot more worried for slightly older groups that are on the bubble than groups that are in the top 5 of the new crop. That said...

SM needs to make a big push before RV gets stuck as a mid-tier group. They absolutely have got to stay away from Velvet for a couple of releases. I would advise them to keep going with the experimental, psychedelic tinge that sets RV apart, but I think they must figure out how to make a couple of Red videos that get across each member's genuine personality and place in the group and also show them having fun. They come off as overfocused. I don't know if that's on SM or RV. Edit: I want to stress, the problem here is not really competition. Their album sales flattened off before Twice even debuted.

Gfriend aren't going to be anywhere close to YGNGG in concept. They have their own producer who seems to be able to reliably make massive hits, and producers are generally good for multiple years. The only question mark for them is what's next after the schoolgirl trilogy. So far the agency head seems to know exactly what to do, though. I think that after two massive hits they could even survive an underperforming single without too much of a problem.

blinded by hate ? i'm just telling you the reality cheer up is more popular than rough the charts are there for you to see they are staying and beating real competition every day/week and have stayed longer #1 and 3 pak than rough get out of delusion

and here comes more and more trolls praising and dragging other groups,

Please did you read my entire OP? This is not me dragging, but more so stating and writing down what i see and how I feel the situation is perceived by other people as well. Not trying to speak for others, but it's crystal clear and pretty evident how RV have fallen behind hard and not even 2 years into their career. And I'm not praising everyone?

Talking about impact as a whole, "Cheer Up" wins this by a landslide.

The amount of love AND hate Twice have been garnering around the world...the amount of times #shashasha has been acknowledged by other celebs...it's astronomical. Cheer Up is on its way to becoming a national craze, if it isn't already. Rough on the other hand, while successful as well, has not even received 1/10th the impact Cheer Up has.
