Looking for a drama (taiwan, china, korea, or japan) with:

- a female lead who's likable. none of the typical whiny, aegyo, clueless type who need men to save her ass every ep
- 3 dimensional character and character development
- plot that doesn't revolve solely around the development of the main love line, but includes interesting subplots involving the side characters and explores friendship/family
- no overacting
- a male lead who isn't an asshole
-open to all types of dramas. period, light-hearted, crime/psychological, slice of life, etc. meh on melodramas but not totally against checking them out

Lemme know your recs~ :ohla:

that doesn't exist in k-Dramaland

:rlytearpls: so true. open to j-, c- or t- too though. more into chinese/taiwanese currently anyways.

also doesn't need to fit everything I listed, as long as it's good enough I can overlook some aspects

God's Gift 14 Days is a good one though the ending is  :rlytearpls:

summary looks interesting, will consider! thanks~

thanks! all sound like they could be promising. i've watched it's ok that's love, was pretty enjoyable. and i really like seo in guk.

Signal

Reply 1988 too if you haven't checked that out

how's reply 1988 compared to the 2 before it? 1997 is one of my favorite dramas, 1994 was just alright so i didn't really bother checking out 1988. i think i've heard people mention signal before, will try it out. thanks~

I still loved 1997 the best. 1988 gets kinda draggy at points and near the end it was kinda hit or miss but that's mainly because people got really into the loveline. However, it is great for the fact that it feally focuses on all of the characters int he drama rather than just finding who the husband is. The loveline actually developed a little too slowly for me at points lol, but it is very family based and it had me on an emotional roller coaster. The episodes are reallllllllllllllllllllyyyyyyyy long though LOL. I dunno how would you think of the main female character, but I personally loved her.

ode to joy! it's about 5 women living in shanghai, their friendship, and their work/family/love lives. it's amazing, i recommend it 100%

yes! just finished recently actually, looking forward to next season and seeing andy and director bao~ also, qyy is quite literally the most adorable character ever. like, can i shrink her and keep her in my pocket please??

i get frustrated when storylines drag, but it really only drags if you're only interested in the development of the main love line and no subplots are being developed. i think i'll give it a go! long eps don't bother me much. if i'm hooked i won't even notice. i watched a 76 ep drama in the span of like 3 days and it felt more like 20-30 eps  :raep:

Sungkyunkwan scandal

this one's the one that's got a lot of bromance right? i heard a lot of good things about this one from one of my best friends.

Miss Korea, Heard it Through the Grapevine, A Wife's Credentials (they're kinda slice-of-life so maybe you'll find them boring)

Awl

Can We Get Married (although some people found it annoying)

In Time With You (Taiwan)

My Beautiful Bride (thriller)

itwy is one of my absolute favorites!!

i remember starting miss korea but i dropped it

first sen summary on wiki for heard it through the grapevine has already caught my interest! will try it out. not at all opposed to slice of life, not really something you find in k-dramas though

can we get married summary sounds like it's been done a lot before, but i might be interested since it says that it also explores the relationship of multiple couples

oh so she's not gonna be with qi dian anymore? thank god, their relationship is cringeworthy as fuck (i'm still on ep33, haven;t finished s1 yet)

i love all 5 girls so much  :rlytearpls:

I'm sorry if these don't work, but I like them~

-Who Are You School 2015

The two male leads are not jerks at all. One is the extremely kind, sweet childhood friend who is poor and cares greatly for the girl, the other is a slightly crazy but kind one who is misunderstood and has a rough life, both are very caring and never the typical cold jerk. All the characters are EXTREMELY three dimensional with a lot of growth. It's a very fascinating mystery-thriller drama that also deals with the everyday school problems of kids. The main girl grows a lot. I loved it....

-Cheer Up

Very fascinating and interesting characters with depth. The male lead, I thought he was going to be an annoying jerk, but he's actually just mischiveous, kind and easy going, he likes to tease but is nothing like the typical jerk lead, he is kind. I thought a lot of the characters had a lot of surprising depth and interest to them. It's very much centered on the complexity and depth of the characters. It gets better as it goes on but it's good from episode one, I believe.

-Cheese in the Trap

The main lead is hard working and intelligent, the male lead at first seems weird, but it doesn't take long to realize that isn't the case. The characters are all quite interesting because none of them are what they seem at first. I loved it.

-The Princess's Man

The female lead isn't really the cutesy aegyo type. Sometimes I wished she was more assertive, but she really isn't like the typical aegyo cute girl. It's a very fascinating drama, it will keep you on your seat but it's full of tragedy and pain so it's hard to watch after like 5-6 episodes. The ending is bittersweet....the male lead is interesting, at first he is kind, funny, selfless, friendly, but cheeky, and eventually after he goes through tragedy, he becomes a lot darker...but he's not at all like the sort of male lead you wanted to avoid^^

I hope maybe you'll like one of these, but if not, I hope you find one you like~

oops, sorry thought you had finished. ending is a bit ambiguous, so it's sort of my prediction that next season we see andi and bao relationship develop. i know a lot of people didn't like qi dian, but i actually didn't mind him too much. the only thing is that their relationship seems to be a lot more based on logic and thinking than their emotions. i want to see andi fall head over heals for a guy!

all 5 are great, i love that they're so different and all have their faults and strengths. xian guan was a little boring though, they really dragged out her internship and the will she/won't she get in. also, everyone makes a big deal about qi dian looking too old for andi, but come on! senior lin looks like he's 40 and people acted as if it was normal.

appreciate your summaries, these sound like they're worth a shot~ thanks for the recs!

Misaeng and Signal.

will def be checking out signal. i've seen misaeng, and it was pretty good. i think it was a little overhyped though, i was a little let down since it wasn't as good as people had built it up to be

Jdrama:

1 Litre of Tears -

Never Let Me Go

Life

Hammer Session

Crying Out Love in the Center of the World

Seigi no Mikata

Gokusen

Tokyo Dogs

thanks for these! haven't watched too many jdramas, but i know there are really good ones out there. i've seen 1 litre of tears being mentioned so many times, i'll probably start with that one when i get around to it.
