why

Because the entire list is mostly filled with old shit and nonsense and illustrates just how much the music market in Japan has crashed.

1 Arashi: Kind of OK, they have huge amounts of fans (even if it's somewhat tragic how they can have so many old women).

2 AKB48: Kind of OK, the numbers are inflated as fuck but they're at least popular.

3 B'z: Absolutely not OK. The numbes are only from old stuff. Best-of-albums + they re-released lots of old concerts on DVD/BR again.

4 Momoclo: Not OK. Their album/single sales are kind of OK, but all the real money here comes from their spam-releasing of DVD/BR that their few hungry wotas eat the fuck up.

5 Kanjani8: see Arashi

6 EXILE: OK I guess (Except for the Exile Pride single, lol)

7 Namie: The only light on the list tbh.

8 Kis-my-ft: Not OK. Wannabe-Arashis but for now they're just ripping off fans with singles.

9 TVXQ: Kind of OK, but the album numbers are still inflated by nonsense.

10 FMB: Not OK. This is a band that has disbanded. It's all just sales of old shit, best-of-albums + their good bye concert DVD.

11 Kana: Not OK. While she's popular, these sales are all just from old shit on 2 best-of-albums.

12 NMB: LOL

13 Bump of Chicken: Same as Kana - they're popular but these sales are all just from old shit on 2 best-of-albums.

14 Sandaime J Soul Brothers: OK

15 Ikimono-gakari: Half is from new releases, half is from old stuff on best-of-album.

16 SKE: LOL

17 Mr Children: OK.

18 Perfume: OK.

The list is a fucking joke. There is like literally no new music behind the numbers. It's all just re-releases of old shit + CDs given away for free to people buying event tickets.

The Japanese music industry is in so much shit rn.

1. Why are SKE and NMB 'Lol' when they're exactly the same as akb (in the way they sell) but with a lower popularity, which is reflected by the difference in sales?

2. I don't see how why old releases are a problem to you, it just shows how that release or that act is popular still and don't bring in any less profit (edit: it probably brings more profit actually since those old sales werent promoted -for those who weren't promoted not re-releases-)

3. Namie is the light~~

What if snsd is in the list?

Congratulations on NOT getting my point at all.

SNSD's numbers are legit, just like for example for Perfume or Namie.

SNSD is only at about 900 millon yen this year tho since they've not released much and they're obviously way behind Namie rn.

But the point is, the legit sales of new material are SO FUCKING SMALL since the Japanese music sales are crashing so fucking bad.

The numbers in the list is just a fake facade hiding what a terrible state the industry is in.

The issue is: the only ones still paying for music are OLD PEOPLE paying for OLD MUSIC.

Nobody is paying for new music anymore.

Hence, the Japanese music industry is in really deep shit.

This isn't really year end. Oricon stop counting 1st, or 2nd week of December? AKB still have that single release soon

Tho pretty much top 2 are expected either way  :._.:

if they counted last year's janken its pretty alright

It's 5 weeks missing. The table OP posted is only counting until Sunday November 3, so there were still 5 weeks to go of the Oricon year.

not really a problem if they started earlier than january last year

and they will probably count those missing weeks next year too

lol, hold on. The table OP posted in NOT the Oricon yearly sales ranking which is done and published each year.

The table OP posted is an estimate of how the yearly Oricon sales ranking is looking with 5 weeks to go.
