Korean Tourism Board Says That Seolhyun Will Stay As Their Model

On May 13, the Korean Tourism Board stated that AOA’s Seolhyun will remain in her position as an ambassador for Korean tourism, following the controversy surrounding her historical knowledge.

The idol was appointed by the board as an ambassador for the “2016-2018 Years of Korean Tourism,†along with actor Lee Min Ho, and is currently tasked with promoting Korea’s tourism industry.

Her role has become controversial due to a recent broadcast of OnStyle’s “Channel AOA,†where Seolhyun and fellow AOA member Jimin, were unable to identify an important Korean historical figure. Many netizens criticize her for her position as an ambassador, commenting things like, “The fact that she doesn’t even know Korean history, but she’s in charge of teaching others about Korea, makes no sense.â€

However, the Korean Tourism Board makes its position clear, reaffirming, “We definitely have no plans to change the ambassadors.â€

Yeah I was really afraid of the domino effect. You know how things work, once one drops you, all other companies have trust issues and follow them. I´m so happy they chose to support her, Seolhyun will learn from this incident and improved herself for sure.
