Do you think international kpop fans are downplaying Kris Wu's international endeavors?

  • Movie with Vin Diesel & a big name cast
  • Being directed by Luc Besson
  • High likelihood of being involved with a project of the Russo Brothers

All of these in just a couple of years. Also notice how this doesn't count his achievements in China still.

People like to say 'oh all he'll do is a 5 minute cameo' or 'he will be ignored in that event' when the results are usually otherwise.

He's achieving things many Asian entertainers/artists struggle for and I feel he deserves credit for it. A lot of K-Pop fans like to see him as this sort of K-Pop traitor but when you try to scan all these things he's currently achieving internationally as an Asian entertainer and still being so young, it is actually quite noteworthy. It's interesting that he seems to actually stand the chance in eventually making a dent in Hollywood where Asians, especially Asian males, are so underrepresented.

People always downplay achievements of ppl they do not like

However, if it were their own bias achieveing such things they would brag to no end.

No one in Kpop can achieve such things so far. Imagine if Kpop idol doing the same thing. Even mediaplay would be never ending.

People can deny all the want but a person's success will always be declaring themselves.

no, I think k-pop fans are not that interested in his endeavors, he's no more in k-pop, they don't follow his activities.

girl... kpop fans stay checking up on Kris... especially on Twitter..

Although I don't see them downplaying.... because his achievements are huge... but they stay making up stupid ass excuses and reasons why he's successful

Rather than downplaying it's bc he's no longer in Exo (aka the Kpop sphere) that his achievements aren't being wildly boasted.

But I follow blogs of some Luhan and Kris stans and they are very proud of him so that's all that matters.

Not on here, but yeah it still happens whenever he's got a new project or event in the west. Some people will always be mad at others' achievements. Hell, there are still those who believe he was better off in EXO in terms of popularity. There was a time when AKP and KB only wrote about him when there was something for fans to bash him for (humorous or "controversial" for clicks and a lot of international fans only knew him as a laughing stock or problematic without seeing anything else. That whole thing seems to have gotten better though.

It's just that he is not in Kpop anymore, you can bet all those thing would be boasted left and right if he's still in exo.

this is what confuses me as it feels like a double standard

because for me a new group who will sell hundreds of thousands of albums is successful whether i like them or not. my bias doesn't change the fact that they're successful. if my fave had a drama and it flopped, whatever the reason that it flopped meant that my fave obviously did not have enough star power to counteract the main reason why it flopped.

it's the downplaying that confuses me. It's factual that Kris is achieving things none of his age peers in the Asian entertainment industry are so I'm surprised that people either downplay it (as if it's a feat anyone could achieve) or even scoff at it (those 'he will just get ignored' comments)

I'm Asian and it's amazing for me to see more representation especially for Asian males on movies screened globally. Not to mention he's breaking the Asian male stereotypes usually shown by Hollywood. Sure, he isn't the first one to do this which is why I cited his age. There are people like Lee Byung Hyun, Chow Yun Fat and Ken Watanabe doing this right now in Hollywood, but it is interesting to note that Kris is getting these huge opportunities at 25 years old and without the tremendously acclaimed filmography Lee, Chow and Watanabe have before entering Hollywood.

A lot of people bashed him and said he wasn't going anywhere without Exo. It's obvious those same people will have a hard time accepting he is doing a lot better than what they expected and gave him credit for.

Kpop fans are always downplaying those they do not like, it's not exclusive to Kris or anyone in particular, it happens even within kpop itself. Fans of a group downplaying another, for example.

Also, some people don't pay a lot of attention to what he does because he does very little music. Me, as example, I liked him in Exo but nowadays I lose track of what's he's up to most of the time because I'm not as interested in movies as I am in music. It's not that I downplay his achievements, I'm happy he is doing well and I always thought he had a great chance acting but I'm just not checking out for him since I couldn't care less about endorsements or movies.

I am so happy that Kris is achieving so much these days. I think it's not that downplaying. Some of the users are right that most likely, users are tracking the EXO tags rather than the individual ones especially of TaoRisHan. But nevertheless, whether some antis are bashing him, he shouldn't mind it simce he's doing so much better than everyone expected.

I even forgot to drop a message in Tao's thread during his birthday. Shame on me! And Kris's hair is growing! Yey!

Well if you read through past threads from when he left, you would see how bitter people were and how they predicted he would be scrubbing floors at KFC or something. They predicted he would flop after the lawsuit issue gets old, even saying people would stop caring about him in 6 months and when that didn't happen, it got extended to one year and then two years but here we are. They hate they weren't right.

I love the fact that his haters have nothing to say now. they were so sure he'd fail, laughed that he'd be nothing without exo, and look at all of his achievements in the span of less than 2 years! like, you can't argue with facts. I'm just really proud of him and his decision to do what's right for him, and just go live his dream.

I don't really care what international kpop fans thinks. I am just waiting for the day when he has to go to Korea to promote his Hollywood movie as one of the leads and Korean exo fans have no choice but to see his face all over the media and street signs everyday lol
