I think it's a case like the Grammys............and then the AMAs and VMAs and Billboard Awards. They're all seen as relevant but then you have the one that's UP THERE (GDAs).

Gayo daejun are year-end festivals, not really award shows other than giving some 'huge' award/accomplishment recognition for the year to whatever group/person they feel like giving it to for each broadcasting company.

Most people prefer the Golden Disk Awards or the Seoul Music Awards for legitimacy. But some people have been having a problem with GDA lately for being 'SNSD biased' for giving SNSD an award even though SuJu had sold more albums that year. This happened in 2010 and 2011. I think in 2010, the claims of SNSD stealing the award were questionable but the 2011 awards it was a bit more obvious it should've gone to SuJu instead.

Err gayo daejuns are just end of year concerts, there's no awards given out so they don't count. Just sit back and enjoy the performances.

As for GDAs, they're Korean longest running music award shows, hence they are most well known and most often considered THE awards to win. Doesn't mean they aren't without flaws however (no attendance no award).

I think so.

But isn't GDA, SM biased? someone pls correct me if I'm wrong

I'd say Seoul Music Awards is truly the most credible and unbiased music award if I'm not mistaken.

I wouldn't say GDA is SM biased, it's just SM groups are known to sell the most physically, a big factor in the Disk daesang award hence why TVXQ, Suju and SNSD have won it 6 of the last 7. And with the advent of a Digital Daesang (song of the year basically), SNSD has won that twice (the most of any group).

As for the other awards like male/female etc, its more open since sales aren't always a factor. The only weird thing is that GDA doesn't have artist of the year and for some weird reason YG groups don't attend, even I'm sure they could easily get quite a few awards and even challenge for darsangs especially in the digital category.

What are you talking about? 2010 when SNSD won disk daesang they sold more albums than Super Junior and in 2011 Super Junior won disk daesang.

Huh, for some reason I thought they won in 2011 too. I guess there were just people complaining about SNSD winning the digital one then. The Boys did suck though.

Some people were complaining about that because they don't seem to understand that GDA counts album + its repackage sales together and considers them as one album.

In 2010 Super Junior had the best selling album. But when you count together Super juniors album + its repackage album sales it was less then SNSD album + its repackage album sales so SNSD won

and then the opposite happened in 2011.

SNSD had the best selling album of the year but Super Juniors album + its Repackage together sold more than SNSD album so they won Disk Daesang that year.

All the results for Disk Daesang of GDA so far has been fair and square.

SNSD only won 1 Disk Daesang in 2010. Album sale in 2010: Oh + Run Devil Run > Bonamana + No Other.

In 2011, Suju won Disk Daesang because Mr Simple + A Cha > The boys.

The Disk bonsang can be questionable but I don't see any problems with the Disk Daesang of GDA.
