It's a really interesting article by Allkpop about how SM is the company that introduced Hip Hop to Korea not YG like a lot of people think. I remember that day in NB some user stated that SM introduced Hip Hop but everyone was jumping at her throat claiming that SM stans were delusional and that she knew nothing about the history of Korean music lol. Hyun Jin Young was credited as the first artist, but Lee Soo Man didn't actually "bring hip hop to Korea." He just marketed it to a more mainstream audience. Even with groups like SES, they definitely had some R&B and hip-hop elements to them based on how they dressed and the styles of their songs. I think people get stuck on the "SM is an evil idol factory that lacks creativity" bandwagon and don't really see that they have tried other genres before. I mean TRAX exists. YG also created/was the first for a lot that's used in the industry to this day too: Mini albums, digital singles, Family/Company Concerts (YG's One Concert in 2003 was the first), Family/Company Albums (July 1999) Double title tracks, all title tracks.
