I suggest you to read this article here is the link : http://www.allkpop.com/article/2016/05/way-back-wednesday-hyun-jin-young-the-very-first-sm-artist .

It's a really interesting article by Allkpop about how SM is the company that introduced Hip Hop to Korea not YG like a lot of people think.

I remember that day in NB some user stated that SM introduced Hip Hop but everyone was jumping at her throat claiming that SM stans were delusional and that she knew nothing about the history of Korean music lol. I'd really like to see their faces right now.

i think sm (jype too) introduced a lot of things to South Korea and i think they're not over yet. nct is just another of the company experiments and soon the rest of the industry will try to copy that but will fail. i'm not even a sm stan but i can see that.

Slightly misleading title. Hip Hop came along after censorship regulations started lightening up. Hyun Jin Young was credited as the first artist, but Lee Soo Man didn't actually "bring hip hop to Korea." He just marketed it to a more mainstream audience.

Yes everyone tends to downplay sm's (and even jyp's) role in the contribution of the Korean music industry which angers me lol

Hip hop first emerged in Korea in the early 1990s, following the end of authoritarian military rule in Korea and the loosening of state censorship of popular music in the late 1980s. Rock musician Hong Seo-beom's 1989 song about a 19th-century Korean poet, "Kim Sat-gat," is credited as being the first Korean pop song to contain rapping.[1][5][9] Hyun Jin-young, a rapper who debuted the following year with the album, New Dance, is considered to be the first Korean hip hop artist.

I'm not all that surprised. Even with groups like SES, they definitely had some R&B and hip-hop elements to them based on how they dressed and the styles of their songs.

I think people get stuck on the "SM is an evil idol factory that lacks creativity" bandwagon and don't really see that they have tried other genres before. I mean TRAX exists.  Even now, they have a freaking EDM label and they have a indie rock label.

YG perfected it though.

YG also created/was the first for a lot that's used in the industry to this day too:

Mini albums, digital singles, Family/Company Concerts (YG's One Concert in 2003 was the first), Family/Company Albums (July 1999)

Double title tracks, all title tracks.

Hyun Jin Young getting arrested also made Lee Soo Man realize artists could be troublesome and that he needed a system to create renewable talent. The idea behind NCT goes all the way back to that.
