To be honest, I don't think Somi has anywhere else to go other than TWICE when I.O.I disband on Feb 2017. I understand some may not like it, some love the idea of it, some don't really mind.

Somi's surge of popularity from Produce 101 is probably something JYPE accounted for, but they likely didn't account for Produce 101 to become this big.

They wanted Somi to gain more experience from the show and build her own fans through the show. To mature and match the popularity of TWICE after the Produce 101 ends and after 10 months promoting as I.O.I member is over in order for JYPE to officially put her in TWICE. To JYPE, Produce 101 is likely just Sixteen or Kpop Star on a bigger budget.

Just like how I suspect JYPE didn't expect Produce 101 and I.O.I would become this big, I also believe JYPE didn't expect TWICE to hit it this big so early as well. Had TWICE been just achieving moderate results, JYPE could have added Somi after her exposure on Produce 101 to hype up TWICE.

It would have been a smart business decision to not put all eggs in one basket (TWICE). Somi being one of the member that JYP himself find to ooze star qualities but lack maturity back on Sixteen. It would be JYPE's unconventional way of promoting on both fronts. Had TWICE fail to get good results after debut, at least Somi could revitalize TWICE or be his next ace for the next girl group.

As both TWICE and Produce 101 (I.O.I) is arguably the trendiest girl groups of recent months. If she debut in TWICE after I.O.I, her popularity would blend in as TWICE is also trending along with I.O.I. The problem is likely a 10 person choreography may not be easy to pull off. It would also be hard for her to learn all the choreography of the released TWICE songs. Some may think OT9 has great chemistry already, adding another member might disrupt the bond. Personally, I think some members are quite close with Somi, she isn't somebody that is randomly added. She is somebody that has been shown or mentioned alongside with TWICE on different occasions. Let's not forget TWICE first win on M Countdown 050516 is also the day Somi had her debut stage. Providence maybe? Destiny maybe? Foreshadowing maybe?

If she debut in JYP NGG, Somi would overshadow all the other members. It is possibly the last thing JYPE would want. A lot of people are throwing flakes at JYP for mismanaging Miss A. The Suzy A is likely something JYPE would want to avoid. The cons of having Somi become the center/face of the next girl group would undoubtedly have long term disadvantage of a disharmonious professional relationship between members than the short term recognition of a successful rookie debut.

Why would JYP want Somi to join Twice? Since this "Somi into Twice" movement started I havent seen not even one good or logical reason why would it be good choice. This is not CCM.

 

I love Twice and Somi but Somi doesnt fit into Twice. She will be better in her own group. 

 

Also Suzy situation is actually one of a kind (+ 4MINUTE). Many groups started as groups with only one popular member but later even others got known and popular (Sistar, APINK even SNSD to some point), some even overshadowed the original most popular member (Girls Day).

i think they will be fine. somi would probably be the most popular one first, but the other girls would definitely get popular too!!!

(especially Lily M, i don't believe such pretty, talented, and charming girl like Lily M would get overshadowed by anyone)

Do you honestly think Somi would be going through her third survival show? Out of their current trainees, only Natty, Eunsuh and Lily M have broadcasting experience. The Chae sisters were rumoured to have left JYPE. Other trainees are literally nugu unless we follow JYPE vigorously. If Somi is to debut with the next girl group, she would be too popular for them to play catch up.

And that's why it's a good business move to let those who weren't a fan of TWICE to become a fan of TWICE. She will pull the heartstrings of her loyal fans into the ONCE queendom.

There are way too many assumptions to conclude anything. 

 

What if the other members of JYP's NGG become really liked as well? 

 

If there is a Sixteen 2, it'll allow the new trainees to gain exposure and gain fans, which is literally how Somi got her fans. 

 

If anything, Somi's popularity will help increase the popularity of other members too. Like how Somi brought many of the initial viewers to PD 101 that ended up liking some of the other trainees.

Somi's slated for JYPNGG, and with her fame, people will have interest into this group even more, which is a good thing.

I would not say that Somi doesn't fit into twice, especially now where she is getting a bit older (she was a baby in sixteen). I do think the concept fits her just fine and she has friends in the group..people who think she'd be some outsider are uninformed of her relationship with the girls, particularly Chaeyoung and Dahyun. That being said, adding her would make the group very large and make each of their parts smaller. Idk how I feel about that. I think Somi would bring something unique to the group (alone her English skills), but I feel like she would get less opportunity.

It's like adding Suzy to WGs..like, why. Let them shine separately.

 

Somi going solo would be interesting to see, but she's so young. Would she be like the youngest solo act? I feel like it takes a while for kpop idols to get that chance.

At least this thread went from blatant bashing into now sharing opinions. Let's keep things this way.

Personally, I feel like Natty and Lily M is great match and I wouldn't mind if they debut as a duo. Natty is very expressive in her dance, and Lily M is expressive vocally. Both of them are emotionally rich. I get the artistic vibes from them.

Eunsuh is a powerful dancer and I can see her being more confident. I understand she also have great vocal, just that she didn't get to show us on Sixteen.

Somi's bright image is very suitable for the musical direction that TWICE is currently having. I honestly think it isn't weird to imagine her dancing to Like Ohh-Ahh or Cheer Up or Do It Again or Candy Boy or Touchdown or Woohoo...

One thing about TWICE right now is that there are 2 99-liner (Chaeyoung & Tzuyu) but only Tzuyu is considered the Maknae. Somi can balance things out a little by taking over the Maknae role (not that Maknae has a specific duty but it's just seems fairer).

No one knows for sure if this will be a move that is well-received by the public and fans or if there will be any negative consequences. Adding Somi is too risky a decision for JYP to make; if it doesn't go well, you are essentially setting back two of your most promising female acts at one go, so I really can't see them doing it. As they say, don't put all your eggs in one basket.
