Would you give your kids your smartphones and tablets?

I have watch many parents in restaurants give their kids, as young as 1, their smartphones and tablets to play while waiting for food and recently now they give their kids, not even one year old, to play while feeding them.

So would you give let them play smartphones?

For me, I would just give them paper and pencil for them :ohla:

Same. Also a coloring book.

I won't get them a phone until they're like in middle school or high school, either.

what always sets me off is family dinners at restaurants where each member of the family is looking at a handheld device instead of talking to each other

whats the point of even going out to eat as a family then

might as well eat alone individually

True, family dinners are suppose to be talking and catching up to each other.

Now gathering between friends where each friends are looking at a handheld devices. If you are like that, then don't do gathering between friends, just stay at home.

not until they learn how to have fun without one,

I would give them it when they learn how to burn time and not tell me their bored

kids, like my nephew, nowadays don't know how to have fun without one, which is bad for their imagination. Imagination is the key to have endless fun

When they're like 2-4 no, cause I know that they'll be forever attached to a phone. Once they're like 10 yeah.

True, I always see kids as young as 7 months get addicted to tablets

Me too. I will either give them paper and pencil to draw whatever they want or color pencil and coloring book. If they ask for smartphone, I will tell them to draw it yourself :dave:

See I don't know. I think tablets can be really good education tools (I had my fair share of educational computer games when I was small and I'm sure a lot of people thought that was controversial at the time, too), so if I ever did get them one that young it would be to help along their developmental learning. But there's no substitute for hands-on learning and learning by example, so my teaching styles would be a mix of those things.

I don't know how old they would have to be to get a personal tablet for entertainment from me... But I would definitely give them a smart phone because I want to be able to contact them in case of an emergency. Though maybe I'd use those simplified phones instead, I dunno.

I think this is why we are having so many people getting too many things and wasting them due to just allowing kids on smartphones ad eletornics. I wont let them have any of them until they are like seven or above, that's when I first had one and I expect my childs to be the same.
