Why is seen as a bad thing if a fandom is made up of young fans?

that doesnt even make sense to me...like what else do people expect

it makes more sense for people under 20 to be kpop fans then people in their 20s and 30s? does it not?

why is that seen as a bad thing? ive seen especially bts and exo fandoms being made fun of for that

Who cares if fans are old or young. At the end of the day they're the ones who fill up the groups bank account and keep them afloat.

Can't stand people who believe that their age makes their music taste superior

well, idol concept in general attracts younger audience tho (if not almost exlusively target the younger ones; boys and girls in uniforms, songs about puppy loves, etc.). Fandom culture also suits younger audience in general, I mean, how many older fans have time to keep up with fandom lightstick etc.? I'm an older fan myself but I can see why idol concept is hard to attract the older ones, there's certain image and stereotype attached to it eventhough it's not always in case.

The older fans of older groups were also once teenagers & kids fans~~ there's no use of attacking the newer fandoms' age, in my opinion.

Young fans aren't a bad thing imo. Especially if the group is a rookie or just debuting. If you have the loyalty of young fans and they grow up listening to you and loving you then it means they'll stick with you for a long time. Plus it's not like they'll be young forever lol :) They'll grow up, alongside their favourite artist.

These are just generalizations and not necessarily true for all young fans but:

  • immature
  • more likely to start fights
  • occasionally act like know-it-alls
  • possessive and overly-obsessed with their favs
  • push their parents to buy merch
  • believe everything idols and the press says
  • affects the way the group has to behave in the public eye
  • likely to go through a Koreaboo phase
  • fetishize or bother any and all Asians they come across bc of projection
  • likely to follow mob mentality

I think it's very relative but that's what I've experienced through the past 7-8 years of K-pop. It kind of reflects badly on the groups because people assume their music and image is geared towards young teens and kids. It turns them off of ever listening or getting into the group. I find a lot of these groups are pushed to do a lot of fanservice and act kinda fake (more than usual) towards fans and on camera to please their underage fans. Like I said, not all groups or fans, but just my overall observations.

It's nothing to do with age but maturity vs immaturity. A lot of people associate immaturity with younger fans and although this is certainly not always true, that's why being a younger fan has a negative connotation.

Generally this makes sense, though I've met younger people who are extremely mature for their age and older people who are mind numbingly immature so you can't generalise too much.

nothing's wrong with that

but ppl are usually crazier and less mature when they're on their teens

that's not always the case though

as long as they buy and stream the albums, it doesnt matter
