Yoochun slays pretty hard. TOP too.

Jaejoong also slays like mad, but I don't think he's really got the actor mindset like those two, in most things you can still tell he's an idol.

jung ryeo won and hwang jung eum people dont even remember they were idols

Hwang Jung Eum in Secret, wow! Never knew she could be that good. Slayed the competition really.

Eugene, Jung Ryeowon, Sung Yuri - like HJE, they are not even really considered idol actors anymore.

Yoochun is one of the current leading acting idols, gets a lot of praise from industry experts.

UEE is strong in family dramas, but somehow gets forgotten when these idol lists are compiled.

Yoochun--the most versatile one because he can do both historical and modern roles.  Has been the male lead in all five of his dramas and is about to debut in a high profile film next year.  Of the current crop of idols, he's the most successful thus far.  But he still needs to expand his acting resume in order to be considered a real actor.

TOP--a talented actor but still needs to extend his range.  Had a great film debut, and definitely has a budding acting career in movies.  Will he do dramas?

Siwan--a naturally talented actor with great potential.  Has a budding acting career; but just need score more high-profile roles.

Uee--like Yoochun, she can do both historical and modern roles.   Has already starred in quite a few successful dramas and on her way to female lead status.  Again, like many young idol-turned-actress,  she needs to act more diverse roles and should venture into movies.

Eunji--a natural with lots of potential.   Definitely female lead material, but she needs to score more big roles first.

IU--another natural talent with lots of potential.  Already a recognized household name before acting in dramas, she will go far in dramaland.  Not sure about her in movies though.  Again, she needs to expand her resume first.

I am not going to mention older/former idols like Yoon Eun Hye, Hwang Jung Eum and Jung Rye Won because nowadays, they are more known as actors.

Yoochun is the most successful by far.

Yoon Eunhye (her fanbase is ever growing, and some don't even remember her idol days)

JaeJoong is also quite successful, though I'm not sure whether he'll be focusing on acting as much as YC...

And it's not only about Korea, they're huge in Japan and Europe (especially the Eastern parts). At the screening of Code Jackal in London, the venue was quite full, and not only Koreans came, the majority were from Europe.

I mean just look at this Amazon Japan top DVD chart:

I heard Lee Joon (Mblaq) is also quite successful.

Hwang Jung Eum

She's by far one of the better actresses. As in, she can really act well. She was good in Giant, Secret, High Kick, etc.

She's not given safe roles either. She's given lead roles or significant ones and she really does well.

Versatility has nothing to do with time period but more to do with roles. Furthermore, Sungkyunkwan scandal and Rooftop prince are barely historical drama. It's really more set in a historical background but it did not involve politics or anything relatively challenging. Honestly, it's not even really a sageuk. I agree though he's one of the better ones.

I still cannot watch Uee and I might be the only one. She's very painful in some roles yet better at others. She's not outstanding to me though. For instance, I haven't fully watched Ojakyo Brothers and she's part of the reason.

I can safely say Eunjung from T-ara is far better than the rest along with Hwang Jeung Eum if we are counting her.

Top has potential, but for some strange reason, I don't see him becoming outstanding. I feel like he'll be stuck in the same roles.  Plus he was in IRIS and he was awkward to me.
