so i came across this while looking at old vixx videos and varieties, i don't know if this would be considered colorism or not. i mean, i know the members only mean to have fun with n but such things still happen and now they all are mature. and I'm always uncomfortable about this. just wondering if this is really an issue or am i over reacting.

p.s : this isnt just a vixx thing, a lot of other people have done color shaming to n

Good thing he's proud of his skin color which he should be.

No matter what color your skin color is, you have the right to love it and no one has the right to go against it.

TBH N isn't even that dark, so I don't get why they're mocking him. He has a beautiful skintone and honestly, they shouldn't try to put this against N as if it's a bad thing.

All I'm gonna say is that colorism is profound in K-Pop, so even if some members have made such comments in the past, it doesn't take away from the fact that many other groups have been involved in it, one way or another. Yes, it's wrong, and yes, some of the members need to remember that they need to watch what they say, but let's be honest, people f**k up. Besides, some groups have done worse. As long as you acknowledge that VIXX is human, then that's all that matters.

I love the fact that N openly embraces his skin, rather than most of his fellow tan idols. He not only shows K-netz that it's something he is proud of, but he also shows his international fans of color how it's a gift, and not something that you have to get rid of, in order to be beautiful.

i laughed really hard

but on a side note, this isn't a bashing thread for vixx, as you can see, my bias is leo, and they are my fav group, i have just been very uncomfortable with vixx on one fine day and some recent interviews because of their dark color shaming. but i didnt know if i was over reacting or not -

p.s this isnt directed to you its just a general comment

We should be aware of the cultural barrier where obviously lighter skinned people are much more accepted in the society.

Eitherway, I had too much of this lol. I made a long post in some thread before regarding this. And this is the most problematic factor in VIXX. As an N stan, of course I would hate it but hey no one knows what happens behind.

Wouldn't pay too much attention to it. I'm black and the same thing happens here in the states. Darker black people are always making fun of "light skinned" blacks and vice versa. So it's not exclusive to the South Korea. Hell, I'm guilty of it. Growing up I had a friend who was so black he looked purple. I always gave him a hard time. But it was all love. We still keep in touch :)

Being Chinese and spent equal amount of years in both asian and western countries, I kinda understand where the problem is coming from. I have learnt why it is problematic, but at the same time I would like to explain what is actually going on (at least in Chinese speaking countries).

The following may seem to contain a lot of  ignorance to a lot of you, but I just want to show that there is indeed cultural differences.

First of all, colorism is different from racism. We were taught that white people are white, black people are black, while chinese are meant to be yellow. I have seen a post by a kpop fan who asked her black friend living in Korea if she gets discriminated because of her skin colour and the friend actually told her the Koreans love her skin. This is because to us, black people are meant to be black. Even though we are meant to be yellow, we have an ancient saying which directly translates to 'one degree of whiteness can cover three degrees of ugliness'. This has nothing to do with wanting to be white (caucasian) looking because the saying goes back to ancient times (not sure which dynasty). Nowadays, skin colour is nothing more than a feature of that person. Saying 'you are dark' is just like saying 'you are short'. Some people do get offended when being told they are dark, but the kind of offend is no more than being made fun of your height. Saying 'you are dark' is just like saying 'you got huge nose/small eyes', which all imply 'you are ugly'. Of course, people do get judged based on their looks. You can't deny good looking people do get better treatments in many aspects in the society.

I am not saying what they did was right because they are def making fun of their friend, but at the same time I feel like the colorism issue in kpop is blown out of proportion by a lot of international fans. When heaps of idols get called out of making fun of other people's skin colour, I don't see the same amount of fuss was made when idols make fun of others height/facial features.

I just want to get this out. I will refrain from further replying but I will read any replies to my comment. Feel free to downvote as much as you like.

Totally agree with you. International fans are just overreacting.

Anyways, I have found my previous comment:

1. I feel uncomfortable about it.

2. But Hakyeon has been being about that to himself.

3. There is this starlight emoticon.

4. Basically a black smiley face.

5. And N uses it always.

6. N is proud of his skin.

7. And N actually has power over VIXX.

8. VIXX said that even though they tease him.

9. Behind the scenes they are family.

10. And we always have a family member teasing us.

11. But ofc some people will only see times when a family member teases us.

12. But i doubt those people even know what they have done for each other.

13. Idk about these people.

14. Im N biased.

15. But why isnt this stopping me from stanning VIXX at all?

16. Im Filipino with a darker shade as well.

17. Or maybe these bitches over here are just bamdwagoning to make VIXX look bad?

18. I feel bad for N.

19. But WTF is this sudden shower of empathy?

20. N doesnt like it?

21. How sure are you?

22. Especially when N is proud of his identity.

23. When N tells them to stop they stop.

24. It is basically the age concept in Korea.

25. So i doubt that this situation is getting out of hand.

26. Go ahead, feel bad.

27. I too.

28. But dont act as if you can feel what he feel.

29. We only see them in the camera.

30. Not personally.
